So basically those examining air pollution just ‘attributed’ deaths to air pollution. I’m sorry for my scepticism, but too often I’ve seen ‘obvious results and conclusions’ drawn from dubious research where the researchers merely try to prove the result that they set out to prove. Air pollution almost certainly contributes to ill health, but air pollution comes in many forms…how many deaths result from Quarries spewing rock dust up into the atmosphere, how many deaths result from the scrapping of perfectly good vehicles only to be replaced by electric vehicles that produce more pollution during manufacture, delivery and eventual scrappage…there are no easy answers but beware of idiot politicians pushing spurious scientific agendas driven more by collection of taxation than anything else. Remember Brown telling everyone to buy diesel vehicles…..

You do realise that the vast majority of vehicles are ULEZ compliant (and therefore do not pay the charge), right?

I assume you eat food, maybe drink some form of alcohol and buy stuff from shops, maybe even have jobs or repairs done by tradesmen on your property. These delivery vehicles are mostly big affairs, tradesmen use vans, why would they bother to change vehicles when there is no need and they can just pass on their additional costs to the customers/businesses and then onto the consumer, plus VAT…everything comes with a cost…….

Nothing has been handed to anyone. The Multinational oil companies have spent millions putting together bids for licenses as I understand it, but idiot Miliband has just declared that none will be issued…..don’t defend the indefensible.

If this was the Green Party doing it, I could understand as they are raving nutters, but from a government that needs money to just throw away our natural resources is stupid in the extreme. The USA, Russia, China, Saudi, Iran etc etc will just sit back knowing that we will be buying from them, and causing much greater harm to the environment, as a result. Why not use what we have and invest the money in new green technology instead of just throwing it away…..
