On the other hand, it's a fairly standard turnout for by-elections. When Paul Stinchcombe took the seat for Labour from Peter Fry in 1997, he got almost 25,000 votes, on a 75% turnout, so I don't think you can really infer that all the voters that stayed at home will vote Tory in a GE. While I agree Starmer ought not to get complacent, I don't think your lot can draw any solace from it, either.Yep, Wellingborough gave Labour 13.8k votes, in 2019 they got 13.7k votes, Tories got 7.4K votes and in 2019 they got 32.3K votes. It looks like Labour did as well as possible and the Tories, who like myself are hacked off over Sunak, just stayed at home. Nothing for Starmer to be pleased about really tbh….
