Beware, Telegraph:

Rachel Reeves accepted £10,100 from a climate sceptic just days before Labour abandoned its flagship £28bn green energy spending pledge.

Bernard Donoughue, a Labour peer who previously told Parliament that the climate change debate suffers from “scaremongering” and “exaggeration”, donated to the shadow chancellor’s office late last month.

Labour formally ditched its spending plan less than three weeks later, when Sir Keir Starmer and Ms Reeves announced they would spend just £4.7bn a year on clean energy policies.

Lord Donoughue, who last spoke to Ms Reeves three weeks ago, said he supports Labour’s decision to drastically scale back the pledge but stressed his donation had nothing to do with the party’s green U-turn.

He said: “I thought that was a sensible decision in line with the national interest. As someone who’s worked with prime ministers, you can’t have wild spending – you’ve got to have control.

I'll admit to not paying the closest attention to this mess, but didn't he at one point try to say that what he said was wrong and he'd been taken in by a conspiracy theory? So is he now going back on that and doubling down on what he originally said about it being some sort of Israeli false flag?

To be fair there was no point not running as an independent given he had no funds from the party and wouldn't have the whip, but he could have at least tried to run on a 'I may not be Labour in name but I'll still be a pseudo-Labour MP in terms of voting" line. Now he's positioned himself alongside at least two other more high profile candidates that are also running on a 'Stick it to Starmer over the ME' platform so who knows how it'll break down.

I think “ Private Eye “ would call that a “double reverse ferret “. If he was going to stand come what may he should have stuck to his guns in the first place. Now he just looks like a vacillating fool. Galloway has got in there before him and is half way down the track. I just got home to find Galloway posters and leaflets on my doorstep. Nobody else has bothered to leaflet so far.

In a debate with two Tory’s on Facebook who have started a post about antisemitism in the Labour Party.

I have asked them a direct question, did they have an issue with Islamophobia in the Tory party. They are accusing me of “whataboutery”.

I was just about to post this answer - is it too strong? I seek GOT approval

I’ll tell you what’s “whataboutery”
Voting for a party guilty of Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia and whipping up xenophobia, then pretending to care about antisemitism as a way of attacking the party you oppose.
It’s not fooling anybody, it’s a poor attempt at political point scoring and beyond contempt.
Might want to send them this if they are so worried about antisemitism
