zzr45,
I thought I would give you my views on your post #79. I think they may also be the views of others on here.
Yes, we did join a trading bloc in the 1970s, with a view to mutual benefit, as you state.
Over time, that 'trading bloc' has moved into an over-arching Governmental-style of organisation which spread in such a way that it infiltrated and then controlled a lot of aspects of organisations of the member states. That control has manifested itself in how it controls the laws of the countries involved, as well as the rulings made by the judiciary. In other words, since the 1970s (and I voted to join on the terms laid before us at the time) there has been a total move away from the initial precepts upon which we joined. And I believe that move away has not been for the better.
Your second paragraph is slightly askew, I think. We are saying we do not want to be part of the organisation any more. What is needed going forward is an agreement regarding how the UK trades with the other EU countries. It SHOULD result in a mutually agreed process, but we all know how politicians are when it comes to such things. It's not about the same access as before, but a new agreement.
Fair competition? Well tell me about the EU funding for Ford to take part of their operations out of the UK (an EU country) and locate them in Turkey (a non-EU country) in the recent past. Tell me who did that benefit...
As far as performances go, all countries and all economies go up and down. It is unlikely that we will ever see a complete, permanent, flat-line with regard to both.
