The Guardian pretty much nails it in one...

Hes made a fine point I feel.

Clearly hes not saying that Big Sam is better, hes merely pointing out that he did a similar job at Bolton.

He provided the stats and its hard to disagree with them.

Good work from the boy Elton.

I do think that he has mate , he's not comparing the two but the points that are used to celebrate moyes are also appropriate for reading sam's level. I think it probably also shows that consistency of manager is a real positive .

It was a favourite of ToxtethBlue's, the Moyes/Allardyce comparison. They are quite similar.

Some nice work:

I lost interest in the current discussion after seeing this beauty:

Harsh mate, i think history will prove what a good job both he and Bill have done!

Its an intresting perspective, has Davie Moyes outgrown Everton or are have Everton out groown Davey Moyes?

Unfortunatnely i think the first is more apt.

Yeah. The conversation is pretty much identical.

Mind I didn't think Liverpool would spend four seasons in a row out of the top 5 and only win a league cup in that time so at least that's gone well.

Liverpools descent has been superb.

They have gone from 2nd in 2009 to 8th last Season.

It highlights that thowing money isnt simply the answer, I think they will struggle to attract AS many top players, but whether we like it or not, they are still considered a big Club.

It's definitely had an effect though, not too long ago they could have been linked with nearly anyone and it wouldn't have been ridiculous. Now if they tried to get Lewandowski or Falcao they'd have no chance.

The thing is if we agree that up until 2007 when allardyce quit bolton for the newcastle job, the two managers had similar records but since then Moyes had done much better. (Since 2007 Everton have finished 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th, & 6th, which is very consistent at the top end while Allardyce has been sacked twice and is now managing relegation fodder.) Is that class telling or is it a manager struggling when the players aren't his and the fans aren't sure about him and he has to win them over rather than when every man in the squad is your player who you've bought in and your men have trained?

The question is what would have happened if Moyes had went for the newcastle job and allardyce had stayed?

Would Fat Sam still be the toast of bolton and best of the rest with Moyes a workhorse jobbing manager or would class tell in the end? And on the other side would everton have struggled to find the right replacement and currently be in the championship while bolton would be sitting in 6th debating whether another man could break their trophies duck or would again class have telled?

Is Moyes the longest serving manager outside of the title contenders cos he's the best manager outside of those clubs or the best cos he's the longest serving?

Allardyce has had a raw deal at all the clubs he's managed since he left Bolton to be fair to him.

Moyes is better as he's shown he can adapt new playing styles.

I think Allardyce had a very specific game plan and found a niche in buying "big name" players who were either old or out of favour.

Once the competition for these big name out of favour players came in the form of leagues like the MLS, A-league and middle eastern leagues his recruitment plans fell apart.

However I do rate Allardyce, a lot of the things we take for granted, like use of stats, increased spending on making sure your players settle in (hiring interpretors, getting local ex-pats involved etc) were things he was at the forefront of introducing.

I think this summer will tell a lot about Liverpools ability to compete.

We already know that Everton will have very little money to spend unless we sell players. However,I feel that Liverpool may in fact be in a somewhat similar situation.Rodgers has already spent a substantial amount of money for Coutinho,Allen and Sturridge alone,I feel they may be similar to us in that the amount of money to have to spend is contingent on the money they get from player sales.

From an Everton perspective, it depends on player sales to determine our transfer budget,it has been that way for a decade and nothing has really happened to change that .

To be fair to him not one club has ever given him good, good backing in the transfer market.

Wham have given him a bit of room this year and he's done very well for them I'd say.

They'll outspend us comfortably.
