just wanted to pop in to emphasise what a horrendous little shithead that dandydan is, what kind of sad case watches his party win an election and then goes on a forum where said party are despised and then spends two hours trying to wind everyone up ? It’s like supporting Liverpool, wining the league and then going and celebrating on an Everton forum.

Next level shittheadery from a confirmed incel
Seriously, the forum is much better if you put that white supremacist P.O.S. on ignore.

Amazing how the Conservatives didn't run a campaign in Ceredigion and yet took second place for the first time.

I was surprised they did so well. I didn't a single Conservative leaflet through the post even, and I didn't see a single Tory poster during the entire campaign. I suspect a lot of Conservative voters are English people who've moved into the county - I believe something like 30% of Ceredigion's population was born outside Wales.

Btw I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Tories came second here in 1983.

Nice one Corbyn. Successfully managing to guide his party to their worst defeat since before the second world war.

Perhaps this is why members of his own party made several attempts at getting rid of him in recent years? His determination to cling on like a limpet at all costs really has cost his party imo.

It says a lot for current Labour party when this minging Tory lot can win by such a huge margin against them.

BBC listing up all these working class labour strongholds for years that have fallen, first chance I've had to see them all, it's mind blowing, ex-mining towns, incredible.

Massive failure by Labour to understand how much brexit meant to these people.

Did his members do that? The members voted him in with a bigger majority. The PLP tried that. It shot his authority and has certainly contributed to a heavy defeat.

And how is that any more of a problem than the current home secretary? A woman who lies slightly to the right of "fascist" on the political compass, wants to bring back hanging, scrap the Human Rights Act, threatened the Irish with food shortages as leverage for Brexit, disapproves of same sex marriage, shills for alcohol and tobacco companies in the Commons and was previously sacked for holding secret meetings with the Israeli government?

I agree Patel is a nasty piece of work. Personally I'd have preferred any humane idiot over someone like Patel. But Priti is saying a lot of things which appeal to Middle-England, the shadow home-sec needed to be a formidable presence to counter that.

In the game of electioneering it's been clear for ages that Abbott was a significant vote-loser at national level. Thus it was a significant mistake for Corbyn to have kept her in that position.

Can't really disagree with this to be honest

He hung on for far too long and it's cost his party big time

Only if he maintains the same position as has previously been adopted. If he said we will ensure that any trade deal doesn't undermine x,y,z but we will stop pushing for another vote then he should be fine. He's been fairly neutral throughout and could effectively suggest he was implementing strategy.
The idea that the likes of metropolitan elite Starmer will suddenly have an epiphany and stop demanding revoke/remain which, yes, to all intents and purposes he was doing - is laughable.

It‘s not her decision. No matter the rhetoric from Sturgeon, the decision belongs to Boris......my own view is that if Scotland wishes to leave then they should go....

It's not at all Pete. The Tories stood on an explicitly anti-referenda card, and the SNP stood on a ticket which said vote for us if you want a 2nd referendum.

The SNP have taken 85% of the seats, and the Tories have been greatly damaged.

She can call a referendum via the Scottish Parliament if she wishes. He doesn't have to recognise it and can ignore the will of the people (a little like the EU did with Greece) but he can't stop it happening.

If he has any sense, he's on the phone this morning to Sturgeon, promising to reverse the worst aspects of austerity, saying he will secure full market access from trade talks and assuring her she wants to remain part of the UK. He will also say, if she wants she can call a referendum. This attacking of the Scottish people and the right to a 2nd referendum has spectacularly failed for Johnson.

It's been a long night, but how many seats do they now have in Scotland, 5? It's pitiful. They have no right to speak for the people of Scotland and ought to listen.
