And to be fair, we can't be absolved from blame either, especially as so much of expenditure is on chronic conditions that we've caused ourselves by poor lifestyle choices. It saddens me that given how much people say they care for the NHS, they don't care enough to moderate their lifestyles so they don't cause such a drain on it.
Totally agree! Not only this but many of those people who say they care so much about the NHS aren't bothering to turn up for appointments when they are booked in for them! Was talking to the Practise Nurse at our local GP's recently - 800,000 appointments with Practise Nurses nationwide were missed last year - 800,000 at what cost! I've had serious knee trouble for over two years now, there's a sign up in the Physio department at the hospital about the missed appointments over the last week, month and three months - the three month figure is over 2500, replicate that across physio departments across the country and god knows what the number is, then replicate it across other hospital departments at every hospital and it becomes a ridiculous figure - at what cost!
Simple fact is it doesn't matter how much money is being thrown at the NHS by whatever party, huge huge amounts of it are being wasted every single day, and a lot of it by people who claim to care so much about the NHS!
