And to be fair, we can't be absolved from blame either, especially as so much of expenditure is on chronic conditions that we've caused ourselves by poor lifestyle choices. It saddens me that given how much people say they care for the NHS, they don't care enough to moderate their lifestyles so they don't cause such a drain on it.

There‘s a lot to be said for this and I expect everyone of us is guilty in some form....*sells pub and stops drinking ...*after further thought, decides to keep pub, keep drinking, but give up eating vegetables.....

Its simple euthanasia is the answer, anyone over 60 basically becomes an increasing monetary burden, cut the losses, it does not effect my good self just yet, so im alright Jack, so Boris Nige or Jo!?

Amazing, is it really? I was talking to a couple of Brits recently, election was mentioned. She said "Oh we'll be voting for Boris - he has charisma". Speechless, I walked away.
Further to this. I was talking with some French people this weekend; again elections were brought up. One fellow said (a polite translation) - "the English electorate are bad, they are poorly educated and politically illiterate".
A sweeping statement but true for large swathes of the general population.

In all reality who would want to vote for Labour or the Tories at this moment in time, they're both piss poor, the problem is we don't have much choice.

People over 60 are an increasing monetary burden, i was trying to apply some centre ground empathy about costing to the NHS care, being shot would be too costly both sterling and environment.

And it came as such a surprise that record numbers of 60 plus would rock up at the NHS around about now didnt it? I advocated 30 years ago that a 1p income tax rise should be levied on the then 30/40 year olds, then put aside for just this predictable outcome.

And why the UK is below OECD average in health spending...

Sorry, don't follow...why only levied on 30-40 year olds....I thought that my NI and taxes over nearly 50 years working actually went towards funding the NHS....having said that I would have had no problems with your suggestion but across the board.

No, we agree. I meant when the BB were in their middle age, a tax should have been stashed away for their inevitable impact now. They would have born the brunt of it anyrate, being the largest % of taxpayers.

If alcohol was a new drug just discovered it would be given class A status, and banned.....but of course it brings in taxes doesn't it?

There are good reasons we don't do things like this.

Hypothecation of tax is a terrible idea. It means your funding streams are inherently unstable and vulnerable to economic downturns.

Collecting tax and not using it is also a terrible idea. It is wasting a resource that can be used to drive value elsewhere.

Sounds like a means tested levy on a specific portion of the population....by 'BB' I guess you mean the so called baby boomers.
