This is the scale of obdurate selfishness we are plagued by in this country. This utter div would stand to be taxed about £8 per month more under Labour's plans.

And despite his complete ignorance, the BBC sees it fit to be shared it with a wider audience.

We're doomed.

For God sake we must help this poor man, let's have a whip round to ease his overburdened life. :hayee:

He has got to have been on a wind up and just gone on there to point out:

When you look at a city state like Singapore, 5 million people, benevolent dictatorship from day one under LKY, and compare it to how the UK is or should be governed, do you ever stop and think that you're making an absolutely retarded comparison?

Oh so im a retard lol

In that case the UK with its £70mil odd population should be able to pay higher than Singapore and attract far higher calibre people to stand for elections.

Surely if the quality (from an outside view) of Corbyn, Abbot, Johnson etc isnt great then this is where things should start...

Who would give up a multi-million pound position for a shot at being an MP and then a chance to be a front bencher then PM...

Not many successful people.

Labour is essentially copying housing in Singapore, though to a far lesser extent

you would pay 45% on income earned above 80k, not 45% of 80k

HDBs in Singapore are derived from the individuals allowance (CPF) not sure how that would work in the UK? Singaporeans are given a pathway to buy them...

You seem to be portraying it in a skewed manner, tax is only paid at 50pc once one meets that threshold. Additionally, once one has covered basic needs, those with higher incomes can invest easier pre-tax.

Yeah i worded it incorrectly.

But my point still stands...why would any person want to stay in a country with those massive tax rates?

If someone earns £200k for example thats a huge chunk of his money gone...

Top talent will leave...wouldnt you?

I can see it being hugely counterproductive.

Whats Corbyns policy on foreigners owning UK housing? Because if thats not super tight with 15%+ stamp duty (like in other countries) then foreigners could come in a sweep up lots of properties...

Who would give up a multi-million pound position for a shot at being an MP and then a chance to be a front bencher then PM...

Boris Johnston. Well, not quite multi million, but I would hazard a guess that his non PM earnings were not far short of 10 times his PM salary. Got £600k a year from The Telegraph alone.

Maybe the nuance of the UK tax system is unfamilier to you. If someone earns £81000, then the highest rate of tax will only apply to £1000 of their earnings.

That said, there is a bewildering array of other stuff that can make someones real tax rate at the higher earnings level way higher than the trumpeted headlines. For some surgeons it means they end up paying pretty much 100% of earnings over sommet like £140000. So they dont bother. So we get NHS backlogs. Great idea eh?

Yeah i realised from the other posters that i worded it incorrectly.

Ive been out of the UK for so long that just the mere thought of a 40%+ tax seems mind blowing to me...

£140k for a top surgeon is really peanuts as well...they are crucial.

One thing i do see in the press now and again is the huge amount of aid going out to countries...its hundreds of millions in some cases to countries who spend more on things like Space exploration (maybe lol ) ...

Someone needs to stop giving the UKs money away...

Have you ever heard of London?

I mean.... if you're going have a go at @davek for playing political tourist in a county he knows nothing about, at least practice what you preach ; )

You told @davek he couldnt comment on Hong Kong cos he wasnt there, what gives you the right to comment on the UK General Election then Zat???

The tax vice for the surgeons only applies to their NHS work, so I am sure they do ok moonlighting.

Foreign Aid is something to be proud of imo, but I do get your point that some could be directed more wisely. No doubt a hangover from the imperial days. Politically, it can be an asset mind.

Well i am English ;)

Im aware that there are huge amounts of foreign owned pads in London...what im saying is that if Corbyn got in are there any barriers to foreign ownership? They have gone up enormously in SG and HK to cut out speculators for example.

As if he gets elected, i can see a flood of buyers...i think the economy would crash...then even i could buy one lol

Thats something i would look at when voting...have to admire someone whose been successful and then gone into politics...

The talent mostly leaves because the schools and hospitals all pay so much less than any other English speaking country

Lost me, schools and hospitals?

Don't be a tourist - especially if you're going to keep carrying yourself like you're Nigel Farage

I didnt say he couldnt comment...thats a lie.

I asked him if he had ever been to HK and numerous other questions...

For me I was in HK and the UK last week :p

I see it as under the table bribery to be honest.

One thing i liked about trump was (no idea if he did anything) him saying they would stop all these weird payments.

If you add them all up...even if half could be saved for a year that could do a lot of good i imagine.

Funny that its billions being discussed really and there dont seem to be many people with experience of managing that kind of money in politics.

Not really successful as in actually doing anything other than play up to a character he created.

In the same way that the Kardashian clan, (I know zero about them actually), are "successful".

The Neoliberal Squish Quarterly Review

Im missing something here...

Starts off talking about :

A third of British children live in poverty. The country has record levels of food banks, hospitals are at breaking point and whole cities have been shut down by protests against government inaction on climate change. Wilful blindness is now becoming impossible to sustain.

Then onto how conservatives have invested into a revenue generating company to self sustain aid donations...

But labour will give the money away?

Surely that favours the Tories?

But my takeaway was about the 33% of british children in poverty? Surely that cant be true :o
