But Atchison wasn’t the first to fit the profile of alt-right killer—that morbid milestone belongs to Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old who in 2014 killed seven in Isla Vista, California, after uploading a sprawling manifesto filled with hatred of young women and interracial couples (Atchison went by “Elliot Rodger” in one of his many online personas and lauded the “supreme gentleman,” a title Rodger gave himself and has since become a meme on the alt-right).
Christ, there’s a rewrite of history. Elliot Rodger was an absolute basket case, to say that he was influenced by the alt-right is a bit of a stretch. Theres as much proof that he was influenced by mainstream movies that gave him an ‘idealistic’ view of life that he thought he was supposed to lead because he was wealthy.

Yep, he hated women because they weren’t falling at his feet, but he also hated men for actually achieving what he wasn’t.

His manifesto is probably one of the most self indulgent things I’ve ever read and really shows how badly the ball was dropped with him.

I think ‘Alt-Right’ is a bit of a cop out in a lot of these cases, as the article admits, more than a share of the murderers listed had mental health issues. Nor does it actually try and understand the reasoning behind why people are attracted to the alt right (or it does and dismisses them straight away.)

There needs to be an understanding of what’s actually happening, rather than a gross generalisation of ‘Women Haters and Racists’

I think their point is that there are two key elements that characterize the alt-right: racism and sexism, so their generalization is, in fact, necessary to say that all of the individuals in their profile were killing in the name of these themes, and there are myriad websites online (all connected to the alt-right in various ways) that likely influenced these individuals. But was Rodger messed up to begin with?...absolutely. You can probably take it as a given that any premeditated mass murderer is going to have mental health issues.

A problem is that the alt-right is becoming (or always has been...depending on who you talk to) a spectrum of extremism rather than a single unified movement, so when people blame "alt-right" for different actions, it can sound over-generalized. In the case of Rodgers you claim it was over-generalized, but one can also see the connections to alt-right themes and websites that he frequented in his manifesto and youtube videos.

But I am in complete agreement that large sections of young (often white) men are messed up and require assistance. One of the SPLC's points is too often these disaffected groups find sexist/racist websites, where there is a community of like-minded individuals that only reinforces their disaffection and in some cases leads to violence against women/non-whites. Afterall, if Rodger was solely influenced by mainstream movies and idealistic themes that he could never attain himself, as you say, one would expect him to not have targeted killings against women or posts filled with racist screes against Blacks and Asians. He could have murdered his parents if he didn't like idealistic lifestyles.

Completely agree with that. What I find interesting is that within the report they actually quote something from the alt-right which actually signposts how these young men are ending up at their doorstep - a lack of social activities which end up producing a generation of social inadequates who end up blaming a ‘big bad’ for their problems.

As daft as it sounds, demonising the alt-right is probably the wrong step. What needs to be done is to look at what’s causing the problem and what can be done to rectify it.

Viktor Orban is an odious man isn't he? Drafting a bill that will force any NGO that supports immigrants to gain a permit from the government or face being shut down.
No he isnt. It's an anti Soros bill and a good thing.

Hungarians don't want immigrants. Soros is an evil man who made money working for the Nazis to transport fellow Jews to concentration camps, makes money of crashing currencies and generally interferes with elections all over the world.

Orban has taken a different approach to the birthrate problem by subsidiaries aimed at promoting Christian and family values in an attempt to maintain Hungary's racial and cultural identity. Something the citizens of Hungary want.

Just because you disagree it doesn't make him an odious man.

Ah, you've swallowed the Soros conspiracy. Super.

Soro's was 9 when World War II broke out and 14 when it ended.

Are you suggesting a 14 year old worked driving trucks or carts or whatever for the Nazi's?

This drivel has been debunked many times.

I watched an interview where he said when he was 14 he pretended to be a Christian and went out and confiscated property of other jews for the Nazis along with his adult protector. He was asked whether hr had any guilt over it he said no not at all. He also said this event shaped his life.

I'm sure it did and he has projected the guilt he feels for doing what he did on to all white people.

There's evidence and motive for what he does today.

BTW you can watch the interview on YouTube.

IIRC, his Dad bought papers to show their family were Christian, then helped other Jews avoid detection.

Was a while ago, granted.

Not really evidence that he " working for the Nazis to transport fellow Jews to concentration camps"

Now if you are referring to the 60 minutes interview. His publicist said that he was confused and the constant questioning from the interviewer had made it worse. After all it was many moons ago and he was a child. There were books written by his dad and a neighbor long before he was rich explaining children's involvement for the Jewish council and what happened to kids during those years especially his life. His publicist went on to elaborate and clear up more items exaggerated and twisted by Breitbart and the right wing element.

Hey but you have all but confirmed you are one of those who believes the right wing garbage spread on the internet. Did you read the nazi stuff in a meme or from one of those nut jobs on twitter then?

I suggest you read this also. Before you spout any of the other conspiracy type stuff about him
https://www.snopes.com/george-soros-ss-nazi-germany/

There are always two sides of the story.

If he wasn't a leftist billionaire you guys would have no issue with him.

I never see you complain about the Koch brothers or the Walton family. Oh yeah that's right they support your cause.

Anyway i thought you were libertarian.

You are full of it. No doubt trying to get banned from thread 3 or is that 4 now from spouting right wing nonsense.

Ok. Let's get the facts straight. His father paid for fake documents to say he was Christian and that he was the godson of a guy he paid. His 'godfather' according to Soros did take him around with him to take Jewish folks property. That is a far cry from:

"Soros is an evil man who made money working for the Nazis"

If you saw the interview why did you feel the need to regurgitate that stupid right wing conspiracy theory?
