Easy solution. Let the centrists - whatever they call themselves - come up with a menu which is attractive to the bulk of the electorate.

Problem solved.

Like Tony Blair did?

Trouble is, enough folk now feel unhappy enough to lob every problem their life entails at any target that seems to be the problem. Folks like Trump feed that desire.

Rhetoric is a valuable campaigning weapon, its a deadly weapon in power.

My Facebook feed has become a free for all for racists, fascists and bigots everywhere. Feels like there's more than you'd realise, and friends and family that you didn't realise could be like this, the excuse for them to act and think this way is there for them in Trump, Brexit and other places now.

I am proper miserable about it all. And I usually vote to the right.
Isn't that just a reflection of who your friends and family are?
I've got none of that on my feed, not kicked anyone off it either. It's quite reassuring that everyone I know has the same fear and revulsion to the Trump Junta. (Yes I know it's a self confirming bubble)
Upgrade your mates to ones that aren't bellends. ;-)

The problem is people have ridiculously overused titles like far-right and Nazis and called everyone Hitler when they hate somebody. It's come to the point where these words don't have the meaning and don't carry the wight they should. The thing is millions of people voted for both Brexit and Trump and the vast majority of them are good people but they get lumped into the same group as the vermin of the true far right. If more people were capable of adult dialogue and excepted that some people just see the world differently to them and that doesn't make them a bad person the world would be a much better and productive place. In an ideal world everyone on both the left and the right would work together to rid ourselves of the extremist elements on both sides. Sadly I think the situation will get worse before it gets better.

Keep seeing comments like "the far left is just as bad as the far right".

People who, perhaps over zealously, want to see social and financial equality are just as bad as people who advocate the genocide of all non-white Christians?

Nope, that statement is a load of nonsense.
Is right Azz.

Add to that, the fact in the work place, labelling someone as a person with far right views, became a terrible career ruining weapon when used in work place politics.

You don't hear of people being forced out of their jobs for airing extreme left wing views.

Both sides are just as sinister as each other, just that the right are more obvious, whilst the left are more insidious.

Going to college in Dublin in the 90's there were plenty of far left types about, socialist workers party etc. They wrecked my head a bit but in all honesty I haven't seen any far left carry on in a long time and there's definitely no far left in America, at least none that I've ever seen.
