Eric Dier looks like a fully grown baby.

Croatia pressed you all over the park while Kane wandered around and stayd on the field 55 minutes too long.
Alli is a mess right now. Lingard is a lightweight. Stones went to Bo-Bo's against one of the most canny operators in the game.
You had the best chance in forever to actually do something and you choked.

The games grown up, fought with its parents, moved out and is bringing up it's own kids. It ain't never coming home.

I don’t understand people criticising Kane, he’s our only world class player. Alli and Dier were incredibly poor in the World Cup and Alli shouldn’t have been starting imo.
Never understood the fuss over Alli tbh, and a lot of Spurs fans don't seem to rate Dier if you speak to them.

Alli is an excellent player but - and I've said this all along with him - I can't tell you what he is exceptional at.

That isn't a way of slating him, but he is a player who isn't a great passer, he doesn't have great vision to pick a pass, he isn't rapid, he isn't amazing on the ball.

However, he does get into good positions on the pitch and is great in-and-around the area. There's definitely a place in the squad for him, but I'm not sure he works in that role in a 3-1-4-2.

He isn't a ball-carrying midfielder as such. He's more a second striker who gets on the end of stuff to score/assist, and of course he has a moment of magic in him as well.

Lol at Lovren calling himself one of the best defenders in the world. Him and Modric sounds like proper little tosspots.

six shots from open play on target in the entire tournament for england

Our deficiencies are very much evident, it's that central midfield playmaker so essential for real success that is most needed.

Nevertheless for this largely unheralded team lacking in so many areas, to be so close to a final is a real step forward.

They were hugely assisted by a favourable run, and were undoubtedly overly reliant on set pieces for goals, but even so this tournament very definitely marks real progress for the national team

We are the only chance Britain have got though.

A thread for hindsight and discussion about the England World Cup journey.

For me Southgates stubbornness in his team selection finally came back to bite us. Playing with a horrendously out of form Alli and Sterling was akin to playing with 9 men.

I feel we absolutely underestimated Croatia, the media expected us to stroll in and batter them and I feel
That could’ve rubbed off on the England camp too
This is exactly my feelings! Had an e-mail today for a petition to get Southgate knighted! Has this world gone mad?

I think the problem with England is we have a 'It's the taking part that counts' mentality and think getting to a semi final is an achievement, regardless of who we've played to get there. Whereas teams like Croatia and France have a 'Let's go out there and win' mentality.

Southgate is a bit too soft for me too. I think you need a manager that instils a bit of fear and respect. I can't see him ever dishing out a rollicking after a poor performance, unlike Deschamps and the Croatian manager who look like they'd unleash hell!

Oh well...

I think the better team won last night.

However, I do believe that with this England team we have most of the blocks in place to strongly challenge at the next Euro's. There are a few areas that need improving but Gareth will have noted this and will be amending it ready for our game against Spain on 8th September.
We shall see, but where is Southgate going to find better players than Alli, Sterling, Lingard and Young.
the only thing that will help them get a result on the night, will be the fact that Spain have new boss and have lost players
