Positives: Pickford, Maguire, Trippier, winning a penalty shoot-out, playing some decent stuff at time, not being eliminated by a poor side
Negatives: There's no leader. Yesterday was crying out for a Pearce, Adams, Keown, or Shearer. The squad is thin - lack of good options off the bench. The's lack of imagination in midfield. Ali, Sterling, and Lingard were cr@p all tournament so we should just be thankful we got to the semis

I do not think for a second that Croatia were underestimated, well talent wise. Their fitness? Well that was absolutely questioned and the fact that England’s wheels fell off against Colombia when they scored, could have been a warning that it was to be worse.

Croatia have a team chocked full of talent, and they even had some key assets sat on the bench.

3/1 at start of play seemed really really long for a team who dispatched of Argentina 3-0 just a few weeks earlier.

For me, when he’s changing Young for Rose, that means he shouldn’t be playing Young. Alli has had a stinker of a tournament, and not sure how he was getting the nod over Loftus Cheek, who didn’t do bad in his two efforts.

But let’s not focus on the negatives, it’s an extremely positive tournament. Southgate has done ALOT right and deserves a lot of credit for his efforts to change what the team was about. We rode our luck, restored national pride and had a fun time doing it.

Probably the best chance england will ever have to win a World Cup, so its hugely disappointing, but at least they’ve silenced some of the doubters!

I think the better team won last night.

However, I do believe that with this England team we have most of the blocks in place to strongly challenge at the next Euro's. There are a few areas that need improving but Gareth will have noted this and will be amending it ready for our game against Spain on 8th September.

True.

England are however showing improvements that I thought beyond us. Unfortunately we lack a true world class talent (or 2 or 3) and have a couple of weak links and need some more experience and nous. The experience and know-how we can get. I don't know if the world class talent will arrive as some of these players mature.

Back to overhyping them in the next tournament is my only prediction.
A strange WC though. I dont think it shows us much about England an their improved status or toherwise as so many favourites had poor tournaments.

The writing was on the wall early last night when Young was being skinned along that flank yet persevered with until Rose finally came on. The midfield was still clunky and awkward with no fluency. Alli was ineffective naively drifting around throughout albeit he got the free kick for the goal. Hes supposed to model himself on his hero Gerrard...Im amazed G Laa hasn't sued for defamation. The occasion overtook Lingard this time..not the only one with the jitters too. I think too though that, had Kane put that golden chance away instead of the tame effort we saw, Croatia were done as they were on the ropes after that opener from Trippier. Ah well...the manager gave everyone a run for their money which is more than the previous incumbents even hinted at so theres a lot of time ahead for him to get it right.

He looked like the bloody sugar plum fairy for that goal.
Terrible defender - in terms of elite defending anyway. He's basically a very decent PL CB.

His place has always been further up the field for me. A Carrick type of role.

England weren't able to take advantage of the unbalanced draw. Croatia were. That's about the sum of it.

France are too streetwise and organised and have too many good players. And their manager looks like he knows how to win it. They'd stand a chance in a stronger world cup. They're head and shoulders better than the other teams this year.

Ha ha. I wondered how long it would be before it was all Tottenham's fault. I could have predicted that with 100% certainty (EFC seemingly have at least that one thing in common with the RS/Woolwich).

Because we criticise one player who didn’t have a good World Cup? Get a grip mate.

Scores winning goals in WC penalty shoot outs?
Fair play to him for stepping up and scoring from 12 yards. Doesn't mean he wasn't awful for the rest of the time he was on the pitch. He did make me appreciate how good a job Henderson did in that midfield though. He's a centre half, anyone can see that. The fact he gets played in midfield is mad to me.
