If the price is too high who says its Bill calling the shots? Probably the other two after a slice.

Be a bit expensive to fly to LA to shout through a fence at Earl though.

Who cares who is a member of BU?

Our sole objective must be to optimise the chances of success on the pitch - that's the responsibility of everyone, shareholders, Directors, Management, players and fans......

Thats very difficult when some's stated desire is to see Everton lose to see Kenwright out.

*looks at Davek*

I think seeing Kenwright vacate the premises and Everton's fortunes prior to that can remain mutually exclusive. Thank you very much.

At the end of the day, most of us can clearly see the club is not successful at the moment.

We don't even trade on the transfer market. When players are sold, the money gets allocated elsewhere, shall we say.

Not buying any players for nearly 3 years (2 years 4 months at the moment, but it will be 2 years 10 months when the summer transfer market opens, because we're not signing anyone this month) is simply not good enough.

This isn't macho 'club partizan, not good enough for us, dammit!' fan-hyperbole. This is 'not good enough' as in, there is something seriously wrong with the club's very short term business plan if they cannot replace assets being sold.

If I want to sell a house because I'm skint, I keep the house looking nice whilst it's on the market. I don't let the lawn grow wild because I don't want to buy a new mower. I don't keep a stinking rotten rug on the living room floor because I don't want to buy a new one. I don't flog the telly and the furniture, and sit around on garden furniture in the house (the equivalent of flogging Pienarr & Arteta and playing central defenders in midfield). If I did all of those things, the missus would go mad, she'd say, "We'll never sell this bloody house now, why don't you lower the asking price?". I certainly wouldn't say, "I love this house. I built this house. No-one is a bigger fan of this house than me. I do want to sell it, honestly I do, but I want any buyer to buy it at the right price, and I want them to treat my house well."

Might have gone overboard with the symbolism there, but the point is, what Kenwright and the club is doing at the moment - irrespective of the BU, who are basically just pointing out all the things that are being done wrong - is simply wrong, and not conducive to find new owners anyway. And that's why people are upset.

What i fail to understand in all this accounts bollocks is,if people who support the bu have all this evidence of financial wrongdoing at the club. Then why not go to the relevant authorities with the evidence ? This would lead to the downfall of the board in no time at all.
Shouting through railings won't do anything at all.

There is no 'financial wrongdoing'. You are putting 2 + 2 together and getting 5. What there is, is incompetence and failure. And a reluctance to explain the accounts properly so that fans don't get the full picture of how much money we actually spend solely on debt-servicing.

Good point Mat.if they satisfy the inland revenue then that should be the end of the matter.
Let's be honest here 24 million they're referring to. I've seen our gaffers in a cold sweat over a couple grand they've had to account for.

It could in fact be HMRC that is being paid off as "other expenses". Is deferred tax actually listed in a company accounts under tax if it's been deferred?

I'm no accountant; just thinking back to Portsmouth and Rangers and several other football clubs

who've paid back owed taxes late..... as a "tax settlement" which I would presume would be "other expenses" as it's not tax on that year's income.

Accountant lids - its over to you!

The plot thickens.

According to Si from NSNO the people who shouted at Bill and filmed the exchange were Joe Jennings and John Harrison, BOTH members of the Blue Union committee.

Bunions caught lying to Evertonians.

Example: Southend United

Football club Southend United has 14 days to prove it is solvent or face administration, a court heard yesterday.
The club was handed a stay of execution by the courts yesterday, despite HMRC seeking the appointment of administrators.
HMRC petitioned the High Court to wind up Southend United yesterday for non-payment of £238,710 in tax.
Southend United is also facing another winding up petition next week from Charterhouse Commercial Finance for £140,000.
HMRC said the club's history of failing to pay its taxes demonstrated it was insolvent.

...

A source close to the case told Accountancy Age, the tax office was getting tough on clubs from the Premiership down to the smaller clubs. He said petitions added weight to its challenge of the Football Creditors Rule against the Football Association Premier League.
The Football Creditor Rule entails football creditors, including the players, being paid in full first if a club enters administration, ahead of the taxman and banks. HMRC, which decribe the rule as "unlawful" filed a writ against the rule in May.
The football club has faced two other winding up petitions from the tax office in the last 12 months, one in November for £690,000, and one in April for £400,000 – all were paid the BBC reported.

....

In HMRC spokesman said: “HMRC doesn’t initiate insolvency action against football clubs or any other business lightly but we will not hesitate to do so when that is the right way to protect the country’s tax revenues and other creditors from those who trade whilst insolvent and run up debts that they simply cannot pay.

“Ensuring tax is paid on time should be at the centre of football’s business strategy just as it should be for any other enterprise. Any business that regards paying tax as an optional extra after other expenses are met or that uses tax collected from employees or customers as working capital is potentially heading for trouble."

If this higher than expected "other expenses" figure was indeed a tax settlement, then feasibly this years "other expenses" figure should be much much much lower than £24 million.

There's also been a recent change (2010) in the UK law regarding football creditors and who gets paid first.

The taxman is taking the Premier League to court in what is another attack by HM Revenue & Customs against the controversial football creditors rule.

Any proof of this?

Does it really matter anyway?
