...not sure what the purchase of Richarlison has got to do with the defence. Surely it’s not a matter of either/or unless your suggesting there’s no more money to spend.

We desperately need re-inforcements at the back, that must be evident to Silva and Brands. I just hope it’s not brinksmanship for key targets that leaves us stumbling around for alternatives in the last few days.

It was more of an issue that he secured the same position 3 times over, and even then the position wasn't secure!

We've brought in 2 players in positions we've needed to improve. Granted, we also need to improve others and I'm sure we're working hard on that. But that was more a consequence of years of neglect in that area.

Alternatively, I think even if we'd have bought 2 CB instead of Digne and Richarlison we wouldn't have been much better off. Probably preferable to get defensive players in first as they arguably need more time to gel, but we probably acted on the 2 purchases as the opportunity presented itself.

The question we don't really know the answer to is were they looking for CB's from the moment they arrived? As everyone here knew it was a key weakness. If yes, I don't have a problem. If no, then we will undoubtedly have problems in the early stages of the season because of their priorities.

We simply have to get a centre half this week. To go into a premier league campaign defending like we are is sheer madness. Every other club will just lob balls into our box knowing we can't defend them.
I cannot believe our management team would have bought the players they have unless they were promised more to sort out the centre of our defence. I am hopeful we will buy a centre half this week simply because the alternative is unthinkable.
