I really liked Gumshoe.If you look at the film directors he worked with its almost a who's who of greats - John Huston, Sidney Lumet, Ridley Scott, Alan Parker, Coen Brothers, Steven Soderburg etc. Sad news.

Finney was a unique character. He started directing quite early with Charlie Bubbles which, although not perfect, was a great debut. Very poignant and a bit of a nod to his northern roots.

I don't know how I forgot his best film (senility probably), Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Part of the 'new wave' of British cinema in the late 50s and early 60s. Features the new GOT motto : 'don't let the bastards grind you down'.
