Some of the poorest people in society haven’t got a form of ID. It’s believed to be about 3m people, in fact. The cost of living is rising hugely so I can’t imagine people are going to prioritise spending £34 on a provisional driving licence, which is the cheapest form of ID to my knowledge.
These people are very unlikely to vote for the Conservatives. Besi4des, voting fraud is something that is barely even a thing. This is voting suppression.
This is what I mean about Principe politics. In principle it's a very valid point that I can't disagree with.
However in real life you need more than just saying 1 in 10 doesn't have ID therefore it's purposely shutting down voters. For a starters the 40% with ID based on that statement that don't vote, that is something important.
Away from that , do the 10% want to vote, will they vote if given ID, why don't they have ID and most importantly , who are the 10% in the country? Do they vote now and can't with this measure?
See what I mean? Just saying 1 in 10 in principle sounds like it's a major statement but it doesn't answer any of the above. It doesn't tell you anything or have any meaning beyond its face value.
There is a video from Australia I saw recently where a group of women in parliament there were saying men get paid more than women. In principle it was true , however one (of many) questions that was posed to them that they didn't have an answer to was do men work more hours than women overall to have that more income? Point being, face value men maybe do make more money in average but underneath that statement , men earn more probably because they work more hours and women on average work less hours, collectively not individually as was their whole statement.
