That seems quite backwards that!

So what is the point in the lord's then if they can't stop something from happening?
I think the Lord's are seen as a 'check' on government. The fact they are unelected is the problem. Unelected people were effectively able to block elected MPs. Both sides always tried to load up the Lords with their peers. It's a shambles really. Time for a second elected house imo.

It costs 15 quid to get a national citizens card so it's not like paying for a passport.

Things like this remind me of the USA women's team. Principle politics, or in other cases internet politics depending on where it's coming from. Where in principle something is right but it lacks actual data and evidence to back it up in the real world.
It would be handy if you knew what you were talking about : you need photographic ID to apply to the 'citizens card', which is a bit of a problem if you don't have photographic ID. If you don't, you have to get two professional referees to counter sign the application, with no doubt the commensurate fees for their 'help'. You also need a mobile phone, access to the internet and a valid, original, and unexpired photo ID document. All this to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Agree that is a mad system. It does need to be affordable and accessible. We were given no choice in it, to be honest. Don't remember any outrage. Think most saw there was a problem with the system. There was a joke slogan, "Vote early, vote often"

We've had to have photographic ID for years in Northern Ireland. Think some sort of cheap and affordable alternative to a passport/driving license has to be considered.
As posted earlier I went for a pint in a pub where I have been a customer for 32 years. As well as being asked for my vaccination certificate the goon, only working there a wet week, also wanted personal ID. That was to be allowed to buy a quiet pint!

Has there ever been a more disruptive, corrupt and piss taking government than this one?
Another Tory in house fight about to start. Only five minutes ago they were backstabbing Teresa May.

Here's the thing.

No you don't. My wife has one. She got a picture taken, asked the doctor to sign the form and posted it off and got it a few weeks later. That is it, no faffing about , no 2 referees , no need for photo ID to begin with.

But if you go down the rabbit hole of no internet, no mobile phone , can't afford £15 for an ID card etc. That doesn't apply to 10% of the country anymore, the likelyhood that someone qualifies for all of the above is minimal at best. You can access the internet at a library!

So the element of voting is neither here nor there in their lives. They have much bigger issues if all of the above applies to them. When you have a country that only averages 50% turnout, the importance of voting is not as important in half the populations lives as it's being made out to be. Otherwise 40% of the population with ID don't vote but that isn't taken into consideration.

Principle politics , it's meaningless but it sounds like it does mean something.

Exactly. The idea of 10% not being able to vote means like in your case, they may not even be able to buy a pint!

Tbh I don't mind if it saves one life

Sleaze has always been the Tories thing. Backstabbing in politics is pretty cross-party.

I really don't want a single person disenfranchised. What about a free ID if on benefits or Universal credit? Haven't thought it through, like. Just off the top of my head.
