How many more times does this need to happen before MP's security is taken seriously? Not to mention the damage the constant vilification of all MP's on a daily basis has. 99% of them are good people doing what they believe is right, whether we agree with them or not.

The problem is that this sort of attack is as close to unpreventable as it gets - the MP (for good reasons) says where they are going to be in advance and the suspect knows they are likely to be in a position where they will be near them.

Even if you had armed cops in the same room a determined person would be able to stab someone in the few seconds they’d have.

None of the above is a criticism of Amess or his security mind, just an observation on how surgeries usually operate (how they have to operate really).

Not if they are searched beforehand. Wouldn't be difficult to have that as standard procedure.

I do agree, but the lack of any security whatsoever surely only encourages these people. If potential attackers knew an MP had security at surgeries, it would at the very least make them think twice.
