I've got a lot of time for some of his political positions but the man didn't have the leadership nous to pull the PLP into line (and so look like a government-in-waiting), and nor did he have enough mainstream appeal to win anywhere near enough of the electorate to gain a majority. His lack of direction on the most pressing political issue of the day was unforgiveable for an opposition leader.

I agree with the first bit certainly - there were people in the PLP who really should have been made examples of.

Someone like Danczuk for example, whose behaviour was so disgusting that even Corbs volleying him into the Thames would have been greeted with approval (by everyone) but he was just eased out painlessly when he should have been tarred and feathered.

The Brexit thing though is just a fantasy of the remainers. Corbs position was less clear than "leave" or "remain" but it was probably more sensible and reflected the mood of more of the country.... but of course the extremists boiled that argument down to absolutes with no space for anything else.

Oh dear...

There are further examples for every day of October...

The Brexit thing though is just a fantasy of the remainers. Corbs position was less clear than "leave" or "remain" but it was probably more sensible and reflected the mood of more of the country.... but of course the extremists boiled that argument down to absolutes with no space for anything else.

Saying "we're the party for both remain and leave" didn't really mean anything though in terms of a route forward in the Brexit morass of the day. It was just an attempt to sit on the fence and not alienate large swathes of potential Labour voters, who were more divided than the support of other mainstream parties.

I appreciate the Labour in general and Corbyn specifically got dealt a bum hand by the lines the county divided itself on over Brexit, and we'll never know if being more strident in either a Remain or Leave direction would have worked for them. But as I said, it's absolutely unforgiveable for the leader of the opposition to attempt to excuse themselves from having an answer to (or even any interest in) the burning political problem of the day - on his watch, Labour became increasingly irrelevant leading into the 2019 election and suffered accordingly.

These are old battles though, not worth dredging through.
