That the government were warned that this clusterfuck was inevitable 5 years ago and yet here we still are is criminal.
When they announced the deal with the EU, it was the one thing that jumped out at me. They left the EU transport tender system.
I have heard all sorts of stories since brexit kicked off and even if we did stay within that tender system, who would sign up for a load under the conditions these drivers are under.
Its quite common to load and then sit around for days waiting for paperwork with no facilities. Loads that would usually be less than 24 hours transit, waiting 7 days to get paperwork. I've heard of drivers begging to take the load off as they can't take waiting anymore. Not only do we have a shortage, we're also slowing it all down and now extremely unattractive to hauliers.
They can just ignore the UK loads and carry on as normal in the EU. Christmas was already going to be tough before everything else kicked in. Who would want to be at the mercy of a customs office to whether you'd be home for Christmas or not.
Of course, we could have spent the time training people as soon as we knew we were leaving, but then who will do the training? The time they had to transition should have been spent preparing, instead they used the whole time to sign up to a deal, announced a week before implementation, just before Christmas.
Boris is beating my expectations though, I thought he wouldn't make it past Christmas. At this rate he might not make it past November.
