He’s done “the right thing” only because he was caught. Not because of any sense of shame or honour.
He thought he was perfectly entitled to act with impunity and would have carried on doing so if not done like a kipper.
Doing the right thing, would have been not to act like the half-witted lying muppet everyone thought him to be.
Hopefully it won’t be long until the next one falls due to more sleaze and the public may finally wake up and see this cabal of corruption for what it is.
