No investigation as to how Hancock was able to break COVID rules and have an affair whilst working in one of the top jobs in government, nor about the dodgy contracts he gave out left, right and centre to Tory mates.

No.

Instead, of course we're getting an investigation into how the security camera existed that collared him.

Because of course that's the priority here.

Not sure "set up" is the right phrase - they've certainly used their press creatures to force him out, but what he's been accused of so far (the affair, the to put the best possible spin on it "blurring of the distinction between public and private financial interests" and of course incompetence) is something I'd imagine most current Cabinet ministers are guilty of.

What amazes me about how government works is that people with no expertise whatsoever in the subject matter can control incredibly important areas of life.

Take Sajid David for example. Not a health professional, has absolutely nothing to do with the NHS, no experience whatsoever in it, and now he's secretary of state responsible for it.

It's a bonkers system.

Fun fact about Javid: his dad was a bus driver! Not sure it’s been mentioned anywhere.

Is there anybody now that believes anything these rancid tory idiots say , say one thing do the other the list is endless , yes i know they are puppets controlled by the the banks and the ruling class but these Merchants truly take the cake worse still though is the tragedy of working class people voting for this lying corrupt garbage

Indeed, and of course this is the biggest problem with having a professional political class - they aren’t actually skilled at anything, even the science of politics.

Everything else - talent, ability, leadership, rhetoric etc - has atrophied away leaving only who they know and what they are prepared to do for who they know as things that are required to get on.

In the last 40 years we have seen Our Great Country destroyed by the free market fanatics imported from the United States , our media taken over by agents of the state funded by the banks and the elites who pump out the message supporting the rat race , no wonder we have awful politicians who are no more than spiv merchants ruling our country with their cheerleaders that only benefit them and their ilk to defend their God right delusion to defend their power money and privilege , these are true vermin

The brass neck on Jeremy Twunt, his 10 year 2018 NHS plan now needs extending into social care, they just cant get enough of getting rid of people into their graves or urns quicker enough, no wonder the triple lock is safe.

Good book on the British art on bluffing in politics.

The biggest issue here is that somebody with access to security camera's from government buildings is selling/releasing pictures and information to the media. That is a massive security issue for the country.

Similar to when Johnson's private telephone txt messages were released. Only somebody working somewhere like GCHQ would have access to such material. These are huge security lapses.

I agree totally about the dodgy contracts though. It is disgusting what's going on and there needs to be new laws brought in controlling how Government contracts are awarded. But you can't just ignore the security aspect here.

Ah Hancock had to go to create cover for Gove, makes sense now, thought they had annoyed Uncle Rupert...

Don't think it's a non-issue mate, but I think it's telling that for the Tories in the media today it's basically the only issue.

"Oh yeah, Hancock, naughty boy yeah, banging mistresses during a pandemic, giving taxpayer money to his mates but... those cameras eh? What were they doing there? We need an investigation!"

Just stinks.

In fairness there are permanent civil servants and health officials in place to provide such expertise. Government Ministers rarely stay in situ for long so technical knowledge is secondary to their role. The skills they need are things like leadership, decisiveness, perceptiveness and good judgement. The ability to know when their being bullshitted is also preferential.

Sadly most of these have been sadly missing in the current government. Having said that, I haven't seen much evidence in the shadow cabinet either.

Thing is though, I've worked in a certain sector for a decade. If someone plonked me in the same role in a, I dunno, ice cream business, I wouldn't have the slightest clue what 'good judgement' would look like for that product, regardless of the expertise below me.

I'm not critcising the Tories specifically, it's more how the whole thing works. It's hardly a surprise we have useless politicians when they're almost exclusively old Etonians parachuted in to jobs they know nothing about and tasked with winging it.

I mean Hancock for example.

Hancock was born in Cheshire, where his family runs a software business. Hancock studied for a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Exeter College, Oxford, and an MPhil in Economics at Christ's College, Cambridge. He was an economist at the Bank of England before serving as a senior economic adviser and then later Chief of Staff to Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.

Couldn't be less qualified for a job in healthcare if he tried!

It's a bit similar to the expenses scandal. How awful the newspapers getting hold of confidential information . We can't have that!
Mind you it could get out of hand. I don't want to see pictures of Boris on the crapper when I'm having breakfast.
