We are talking massive 5 figure plus sums being pushed onto individuals who most likely have bought their first ever property and are now stuck with it, a massive bill they can't pay and no opportunity to move

Invariably issues will be down to someone wanting to build on or near land visited by travellers and can see their presence having a negative economic impact. Gentrification is another issue with increasing house asset, then middle class professional types assert themselves start to wag and sneer and mobilise against travellers.
