To be fair Starmer's right in what he says. The report claims she was a bully, Boris says she isn't a bully, he needs to publish the report to show why he came to that conclusion, if he refuses then it will just look like another example of Boris sticking two fingers.

Obviously Boris wants to retain her services. The PM chooses who sits around the cabinet table. She has apologised for her previous behaviour. She knows she is gone if it happens again, and I expect some within the home office are already plotting further revelations.....

a reminder - Patel was accused of doing this at three separate departments, and thats on top of meeting with foreign government officials without telling anyone

Sometimes in a crisis, and let’s be honest Boris has got Brexit/Covid/Economy to deal with, you want people around you that you can trust to get a job done. He may have it wrong, but I for one would not seek to weaken his team at this particular moment in time.....

The problem for Boris though is it just comes across as another case of cronyism. If he has total faith in what he said about her not being a bully after reading the full report then surely putting the report out there shouldn't be an issue?

It would just give Starmer and co and assorted anti-Johnson conservatives like Clarke something to beat him with....

Its hard to see how that team could get any weaker, though - and of course this is by design, to remove all potential threats to him. The result is serial incompetence as we are all seeing now, and which we will become even more familiar with in 2021.

Plus of course the looming ET over this civil servant going is inevitably going to put him in a position of either spending a very large sum of taxpayers money to shut the bloke up and looking bent as nine bob notes that someone has sat on, or having him watch the whole of this report and everything it deliberately didn't contain come out in court (ie: in public) and make him look like a fool.

I know it's a case of damned if he does, damned if he doesn't but, after the debacle with Cummings and Boris defending him to the hilt then he's not doing himself any favours by backing someone else who has been in breach of what he supposedly believes in.
