Strong link to eugenics (amazingly defended by some on here), then this approach to the corona virus against the thinking of the nations who have been more successful in dealing with it.
In reality, our infection rates per million are absolutely dwarfed by most other European countries.

Huh? If these countries have had 'better' levels of containment, why are more of their population as a percentage carrying the virus?

I think he means that infection rates seem to follow an exponential curve, and we are simply at an earlier stage, so they're assuming Britain will follow the same as everyone else and are getting their criticism in early. If you want, we can enjoy the spectacle of monitoring our growth versus a country like Czech, who are at a similar stage but have shut schools etc. It'd be like a macabre version of It's A Knock Out, which given the grim fixation people are having with this every minute of every [Poor language removed] day, seems to be how many are treating it.

It’s interesting that a scientist was on R4 yesterday evening saying that in reality, it would take 3-4 months of continual closure of schools to have the effect of essentially stopping transmission through them. You also lose the ability for society to develop immunity towards the virus, so closing for less time than that essentially kicks the can down the line. Same with open air events, they actually aren’t that problematic as the spread is nowhere near as effective outdoors.

However, that’s just the view of experts. Piers Morgan wants things to happen NOW so, by jove, we must head full steam into knee jerk reaction mode and damn the science.

There was a post made in the depression thread with WHO guidance on mental health, as this constant barrage of misery is causing a big increase in anxiety. I know exactly how they feel. It's not changing how people behave, so what's the bloody point? Armchair immunologists whipping themselves up into a frenzy. Wash your hands as much as possible. Keep social encounters to a minimum. Turn the news off.

As an uninformed introvert I'm ideally placed here

Nena is very apt.

You do realise it was the Tefal scientist from the adverts?

Johnson's, 'let it run its course', 'take it on the chin' and the herd immunity comments by Preston can only be seen as the government plans to do nothing. You can't get 'herd immunity' unless 95% of the population gets infected. That's why Johnson said, 'people will lose loved ones'. If the government were to take action then the UK population may not reach their goal of 'herd immunisation'. This cavalier disregard for human life is typical of these scummy Tories. Debating around with such Mathusian theories, might by fine in the debating soceities of Oxbridge and the Bullingdon club but proposing to carry them out in practice, as Johnson is doing, is the sign of a loony psychopath. As the UK burns, Johnson fiddles with his 'let them eat cake' ideology.

It’s been mentioned before here but is worth repeating that a lot of the clique around Johnson are believers in eugenics, despite it being absolute junk science.
