It doesn't always work mate.
My mum had a stroke and the muscles in her throat were dead so she couldn't swallow. She was taking proteins intravenously for about a month with no signs of improvement. She was 91 and all the family accepted the medical advice to put her on pathway. Effectively they cut off her life support and were starving her to death, humanely of course. After 10 days without food and water the medical staff were astonished that she was still going. It transpires that whenever my mum said she was thirsty the nurses had a lly ice in the freezer that they gave her to suck for a minute or two. So they brought in the speech therapist to and it turns out she could swallow again. So they took her off pathway.
That was about 8 years ago. I think they may have stopped the practice now as it was, for all intents and purpose, euthanasia.
But enter COVID-!9. Completely legal AND more effective.
