Well I know Nigerians that live here I also know that it’s not uncommon for Nigerian women to seek asylum on the grounds of sexual abuse /violence . I also know up towards a 1000 people have been arrested over the last few days in anti government protests and a number killed so people may seek to flee .

My point Pete is there is no way to seek asylum in this country and comply with your demands it be ‘legal ‘ so my question is what do you suggest they do ?

Yet Nigerians do not show up on those arriving by dingy who tend to be from Iran, Albania and so on, but somehow do tend to arrive here legally. I don’t know why some can and as you say some can’t, unless you can throw some light on the subject…..

I’ve no idea as my in laws live in the USA, Romania and the Philippines. My son works in Saudi and his family is in the Philippines and he would be unable to get visas for them to be in Saudi with him. I’m sorry Bruce, but I try to reply respectfully to posts without recourse to using foul language, casually calling people racists etc, which you have done with every post over the last night or so. Stifling debate by the use of such posts does not benefit anyone, neither migrants nor existing populations. It does nothing to address issues and if anything it just stirs up the type of trouble as is now seen across the country….

No, you have no idea, and despite people repeatedly telling you that there are no safe, legal routes to apply for asylum without setting foot on British soil, you continue to carry on as though there are. The basic situation is that ever since Britain helped to establish the refugee convention, people have been free to claim asylum however they arrived in a country. That approach has worked very well, but the Tory government (with your backing) broke free from their international legal obligations to say you can no longer do that, while also providing no alternative ways of claiming asylum before people leave their homeland. They did this in order to appear tough to you and to those on trashing towns and cities up and down the land. Are you proud?

Yeah you can apply for a work visa if you qualify but you can’t apply for asylum visa , hope that helps . Of course you could lie , which would be illegal .

If you’re fleeing oppression or death you can’t , in your words , legally apply for asylum. You’re not thick Pete so you understand that so that has to inform your opinion on legal/illegal unless you aren’t interested in that happening .

I understand how poorly informed or educated people don’t understand but can’t process that intelligent people don’t follow unless they’re being disingenuous.

The vast majority of Nigerian migrants in the UK arrive on student visas. Are you seriously suggesting that the best course of action for someone in the kind of circumstances whereby they might seek asylum somewhere is to hit up UCAS? I can't imagine why anyone would think you clueless on this matter Pete, much less utterly heartless.
