That reminds me of an old saying...
"If you’re not a liberal when you’re 20, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 40, you have no brain”
Reminds me of an old saying
'no'
That reminds me of an old saying...

There is no record of anyone hearing Winston Churchill say this. Paul Addison of Edinburgh University made this comment: ‘Surely Churchill can’t have used the words attributed to him. He’d been a Conservative at 15 and a Liberal at 35! And would he have talked so disrespectfully of Clemmie, who is generally thought to have been a lifelong Liberal?’
You mean the made up saying?
Ironic that you are talking about people with no brain while you still support this Nazi Party tho.
I didn't quote Winston Churchill. I didn't suggest he said it. As such, I said it was an "old saying". There are many variations of this quote, and no general consensus on the original source. That said, the general message remains the same...
So it's just made up then?
It's a made up quote that some right wing bell uses to justify him voting for scum.I didn't quote Winston Churchill. I didn't suggest he said it. As such, I said it was an "old saying". So it's just made up then?
There are lots of well-known sayings where the original source is not known, or is disputed. That doesn't mean the message suggested is not true. And have you not heard of Chinese whispers?
The message of the saying is simple... voters allegiances and beliefs may change as they get older.
Joe Cabot no?I think the original source was Mr White..
This shouldn't be allowed to happen. No serving MP should be allowed to switch parties mid-election. Yes, technically, we vote for local politicians to serve local issues as an MP. In reality, in a general election, most of us are voting for national parties.
Any serving MP switching parties should automatically trigger a by-election.
Looking back on it, Major was the last decent PM that this country has had. He was dealt a bad hand by events and his own party but turned the economy around and did nearly all the heavy lifting over peace in NI.
He still did a lot wrong - Rail privatisation, the selling off of defence housing, the start of PFI to name three - but you can at least try to make an argument that he left the country in a better state than he found it. You cannot say that about any of his successors.
This should provoke some cognitive dissidence for those who naively support mass and uncontrolled immigration. You are supporting the wealthy home owners/landlords, and business owners.
Mass and uncontrolled immigration, means those looking for a limited number of entry-level jobs will suppress entry-level wages. Mass and uncontrolled immigration, means those competing for a limited number of homes will raise house prices.
This is a bad combination...
Less competition for homes will lower house prices. Less competition for jobs will raise wages. A better combination.
The interesting thing about the Major period is that Major himself came across as having something approaching honour, but the party itself was a mess
That being said, you still had a handful of One Nation Conservatives within the party who at least didn't come across as absolute amoral weapons (even if you didn't agree with their politics)
I can't think of a single redeemable Tory any more. Where are the Ken Clarke's of this Tory party? They're all awful
To recap. Abbott was as thick as a brick, Clarke was a smug self satisfied know it all, Major was basically Sunak Mk1 who also stabbed a popular PM in the back in order to get the job….
It reminds me of an old cartoon in “ Private Eye “ it was a cross section of the earth with miners digging away underground and Sir Alec Douglas Home is stood on the surface with a speech bubble coming out of his mouth saying “ Of course my family have always lived amongst mining folk “."he can't possibly be racist, he does a lot of business in Jamaica"
wtf is going on.
That's just flagrant bollocks.Major was basically Sunak Mk1 who also stabbed a popular PM in the back in order to get the job….
He doesn't like facts, absolutely is not interested in finding out that brittania rules nothing, let alone waves nowadays. That's just flagrant bollocks.
Major supported Thatcher against Heseltine and only entered the leadership contest in the second round, after she withdrew, with her backing.
Neither was she particularly popular when she resigned.
Am I right in thinking you run an ale house?
