I'd say Blair and Brown qualify as well

I disagree for both. Brown was a terrible Chancellor who appeared to honestly believe he’d found a new form of economic success when all he did is load the debt on his successors 15-25 years in the future. He is a big part of the reason why the state is loaded with so much unnecessary debt. As PM he was fundamentally weak too, especially with regards to the Blairites and the banks - who he helped rescue in 2008 and then let off.

As for Blair, ignoring for a moment everything about Iraq and Afghanistan, ignoring everything about the corruption of public life and standards and ignoring what he let Brown do as chancellor what really damns him in my eyes is the opportunity he wasted. In 1997 we had low debt, a growing economy and were perfectly placed to put things in place to put this country at the forefront of Europe. We could and should have been in a much better place than we are now, however he is now very wealthy.

Seems like he acted entirely properly, and there's a bit of spin on that article to make it seem more underhand than it was.

The writing was on the wall for Thatcher regardless, and Major acted in a way as to make it as unmessy as possible, and she backed his bid for the leadership at the time.

I'm sure half the cabinet wanted her out but never had the spine to say it at the time.
Thatcher hated the North and took milk off kids at School and tried to give us the poll tax he's @peteblue , she was immensely popular.....not.

LOL. Spot the muted reporting/weak attempt to deflect.

The degree to which the government will interfere to protect its own interests is shocking - and that Telegraph / Spectator bid is a much bigger story than the Hester one.

The UAE bid would probably result in the Telegraph becoming a newspaper again, it would have the resources again to conduct proper investigations and would certainly result in a greater diversity of views on Fleet Street.

However for all those reasons it must be opposed, so the growing media empire set up to back the current regime can be further strengthened.

So people can be openly racist now. As long as they apologise then it’s all good.

I thought Sunak played this very badly. Yes he said the other fella had apologised, but a more gracious PM should have turned and faced her directly and apologised on behalf of his party and supporters…..

Because an apology solves everything
a meaningful one, and it's time to heal and forgive...

the twit* has admitted being rude, and the torys are hiding behind 'alleged'. though the twit* in question hasn't denied the comments attributed to him.

Someone has a recording, and they're letting this play out before hitting the play button. hence the reversal from initial support.

No it doesn’t, I’ve already said that I think the cretin involved should be prosecuted, but Sunak should have given a formal and visible apology….
In my humble opinion… the apology isn’t Sunak’s to make, he should have come out and stated what it clearly was , a racist attack on a black female MP, then either returned the donation or donated it to various charities.
