To get all the freebies here you need to have a pretty low income. Any working person is above that, if legally employed
I'd rather have my moderate pensions and not need the payment.

Well look at their successes. Britain can now stand on its own two feet (more of a concept and a feeling than a tangible success but still). And they've taken all the money out of public services, infrastructure, local government and redirected it to the fight against the WOKES. Finally, public money is being spent on a worthwhile cause

Some of the reasons are incredible as well, the line in sand such as Keir Starmer can't define what a woman is. Means test easy enough if social services and inland revenue share their data.
But then I'm not sure that doing what the french call 'declaration de revenu' to the tax people is mandatory in UK.

….its not easy and its not a one-off as circumstances change. It would need a department to administer. Much greater overheads than just paying.

'Stubbornness' is a bit of an arrogant thing to suggest, JJ. People who vote differently are not 'stubborn'... just because you can't convince them to convert to your way of thinking doesn't make them stubborn. Perhaps their difference of opinion is based on many, many, years of life experience? Life experience, even if different to your own, should be valued, not dismissed...
