Current Affairs The Conservative Party

Typical Tory response to whenever their lies and incompetence is laid bare: Culture War nonsense to get their Sun reading base frothing at the mouth.

The lack of empathy given the Brianna Ghey context is depressing but unsurprising.
That was a real moment and the mask slipped from Sunak. A real opportunity to see the man behind the mask.

The prejudiced face of the Conservative Party in 2024.

He's no politician, he is a businessman and a manager/trader in it for one reason. Sadly it seems to be the same for many so called leaders globally.

I doubt Sunak would have ever been anywhere near the front bench if Johnson hadn't been desparately trying to fill his cabinet with Leave-leaning MPs that he perceived as being zero potential threat to his leadership. Probably thought, correctly, that the membership wouldn't tolerate Sunak ever challenging.

Sunak knows fine well what he’s doing I think. Always said they would try to bring this next election down to be fought on phony culture wars.

It’s all they have left. Labour would do well to try and shift the narrative back to real world problems and not engage.
Sunak himself doesn't know what he's doing, He was dumb enough to go ahead with his pre-written trans-jibe 90 seconds after Starmer praised Esther Ghey, he was also stupid enough to agree to a £1k bet with Morgan before he u-turned on it the next day after realising it was terrible optics. I don't expect a apology from him over the comments though, the grifters and TERFs are out in force defending him.

Depressing, but not surprising that he’s getting defended. Haven’t seen any of it, but people will be keen to argue about freedom of speech, and how what he said wasn’t ‘transphobic’, but the more salient point is that it was a tasteless, thoughtless, tactless and inhumane thing to say in front of a bereaved mother.
