Sunak plan for the week is to tell the plebs how well the economy is doing.

Just Might be problem.

It wasn't a trick question :) Just wondered, given how the industry is spoken about as hugely strategic, a) how big steel consumption is in the UK, b) how much of that is provided for domestically, and c) where the rest comes from.

It feels these are important, as the plant is clearly not able to sustain itself organically, which given the supposed strategic importance of the sector does suggest either the sector isn't as big as we're portraying, or the plant itself can't compete with foreign rivals.
Britain outside the EU has lot to do with it. No such thing as "free trade deal" for Britain in the 21st century. The entire concept of EU is to protect members from competitors.

Even strategic considerations face economic realities, I think therein lies the problem.

Some of them are concerned about all of the money that they have taken from our local councils. It is a real shame that some, more than 40 Tories, have taken until an election year to acknowledge the damage that they have caused.

It's the playbook, they know they're doomed, so start briefing that they'd undo what they've done so when voted out the can point to these soundbites as evidence that they're on the side of the people who's throats they personally cut. Thinking three and four steps ahead, arse covering careerism.

Austerity = tax cuts eh @peteblue

Wimps. I remember being in school, as will no doubt a few other in here, obv not gen Z or millenials or whatever other name that our spoilt children go by, which tbh was more like a large shed, with a stove in the middle, it was like something out of a German prisoner of war camp. The heat generated only went about five feet in any direction. Kids today eh, having to wear jumpers or coats…..
