Has Whitty or Van Tam said anything yet.?… I’m not talking about liars or whatever. But if I had been the CSO I would have said what I believed and kept my professional integrity intact, if he didn’t at the time then he was not worthy of the position in the first place……

The records he kept at the time show he believed then what he is saying now

No problem with that, but if he believed it why the hell didn’t he say something, that was his job. I’ve met too many Vallances in my own professional life and I have no time for ‘political’ scientists…whitty always came across as more genuine, but again, if any of them truly believed the government was doing the wrong thing then they should have said so…..

That's not really the point though. You stated that Valance is looking to stitch everyone up and is covering his arse. Diary records and other people's testimony prove that's not the case.

Just leave it there, Pete, rather than casting more opinions that you're trying to present as facts.

Valance is attempting to stitch up everyone to ensure he comes out of it whiter than white. Bearing in mind he was always stood next to the PM, was the Chief Scientific Officer throughout, I think he is just covering his own back tbh…had he truly believed a different course should have been followed then he should have said so at the time, when lives were at risk, and not now after the event…….

They would have been ridiculed, or called traitors and dismissed c'mon Pete you know this. But funnily enough I agree they should have said this at the time.

Actually, it’s precisely the point. He was not a politician, he was the Chief Scientific Officer and saying nothing if he believed it was pure cowardice and back covering. Obviously our Politicians hadn’t a clue, how could they, they were neither scientists nor medical people, that’s what the CSO and CMO etc were for…..

Your boy and his cabal stopped 'following the science' very early on, after they decided to politicise the whole thing. Remember? What exactly do you expect Sage to do, other than present facts? As you say, they weren't politicians...and not there to determine policy.

No problem with that, but if he believed it why the hell didn’t he say something, that was his job. I’ve met too many peteblues in my own professional life and I have no time for ‘political’ apologists… thatcher had her stalwarts and it was always everyone else's fault, and the same fruitcakes have found similar for johnson, praise the ground he walks upon and whoever gets screwed over had it coming.
only to happy to point the finger at anyone so long as it's not johnson. I wonder, who's going under the bus first out of Vallance, and your pet favourite sunak? boris' excuses are sunak and hancocks excuses, how will you slice this crap sandwich to make it palatable.
I'll cheer the day johnson pops its clogs, dance on its grave and throw paint at its statue. some of the worst scum to ever squelch it's way across the land, and that it's supporters are worse and proud of it casts the shame and indignity upon that collection of hideous snakes they all deserve.

death to the tory party.

There was surely scientists or medical people in the houses of Parliament somewhere that Johnson could have appointed as health secretary instead of that buffoon Hancock.

Sorry guys, I have no intention of defending the politicians until we know the full story from everyone. It just appears to me from my own professional experience that Vallance is attempting to absolve himself of any blame by shuffling it onto anyone other than himself. If he could have said something and didn’t during this period of time then he’s a moral and scientific coward. Honestly no political defence, just professional opinion…….

Come on Pete.

So Vallance quits in a pandemic because the Tories lie about following the science or even worse contradicts Johnson during a press conference.

Yes that would really help the situation.

With the way the men* in #10 slagged off the women they saw as obstacles, I wonder what chances some science bod had in such an arena of ego and nastiness.

Vallance covering his own back? or telling the truth. I appreciate the truth is a (haha) foreign concept to the tories and their minions.
