Apparently fighting like rats in a sack. Again. Seem utter incapable pf just quietly trying to get on with things, which is actually what is needed.

Can't imagine the average swing voter is particularly impressed.

Nor even the Tories. Sunak is a wet week, he is a typical number 2 in a company, a bean counter with absolutely no idea of how to enthuse and invigorate. It’s keep safe, keep doing the same things. It’s the exact opposite of the Truss debacle. If they don’t bring Boris back they will get what they deserve…….

Mate, Boris. Behave yourself now.

Just more circus, ineptitude and stagnation if they go down that route.

People properly need their heads checked if they think Boris is the answer to anything other than "who is the useless, untrustworthy posturing liar with the terrible hair?"

Boris will only come back after they have had a defeat and memories of his actual time in office have recededed.
Quite a lot in the tory party fought to get him the sack. While they are around he hasn't a hope.

How’s he got an OBE? lol
For an MBE/OBE, the following is what you do. I know of one well-known researcher/writer of many books who got his wife to apply for an MBE for him, after he scripted the complete application. No names, no pack-drill, as he is very well known in aviation research circles, and I am still in touch with him and will be providing him with info for a future massive project that he is undertaking. From what I have been told he also got her to put in an application for him to become a member of the FRHist S (Fellow of the Royal Historical Society). This all came to light when they divorced and she spilled the beans on what went on...

I've worked with three OBEs and one CBE.

Most were nea, applications put forward by their organisation - just so they can bang on about it for institutional esteem and so forth pretty much.

One old manager was particularly uncomfortable with it, but kept her mouth shut and head down because she couldn't be arsed with the arguments / possible unwelcome attention.

I do know of one individual who I suspect has done similar to your friend and colleague. Not saying your friend is a similar character, but the person I'm referring to is a huge self-aggrandizer and known for not actually producing much of note, but seem to be known and 'in' with the right people and have a habit of falling upwards.

I.e. some salt pinching is needed ;)

There's one guy who was awarded the MBE that I have known for decades, and it was fully deserved. His name is Dave Brocklehurst, and he runs the Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge, Kent, on the site of the old RAF airfield. He has put decades of work into developing it into the pre-eminent museum dedicated to the participants of the Battle from both sides, with particular emphasis to the RAF side. When David Jason did a documentary about the Battle several years ago he visited the Museum and was astounded by the volume of work that Dave had put in over the years. So David Jason put the application in, and it was duly accepted. A totally worthy award for Dave. I'll be down at the museum on 12th & 13th August giving my usual yearly short talks on the Messerschmitt 110 in the Battle during the day to the customers passing through.

Yeah, take them on a case by case basis.

Tbf most I know are deserving too - have either been seriously influential leaders and / or conducted landmark game changing research in the field of healthcare.

But the one case... nah.

It's all balls really anyway isn't it?

I assessed a woman last week who in the past few years had developed a brain disease plus loss of hearing and visual impairment.

Her husband was working 60hrs a week minimum wage whilst trying to care for his wife. There are countless workers in this country in similar situations. Getting awards for doing your job is just pointless and an insult to the population like this bloke who will just get on and do it because that's what he needs to do and there's no other option.

It's not my job but I sat down with this guy and explained social care options and where to find a new job. Both Romanian by the way, come over here working hard and then life hits them hard.

I love meeting good people, reaffirms your faith in society
