Personally, I lost interest in MOTD years ago. Having to sit through a 90 minute show, half of which is just pundits talking, and having to wait patiently for the only 5 minutes of highlights that I actually wanted to watch... And to do so, I'd have to stay up late on a Saturday night, or get up early on a Sunday morning.

Now, I simply go on YouTube for my highlights; all officially released by the Premier League. 3-4 minutes of action highlights. No waiting around, no pundits, no nonsense... just goals and highlights! And I can watch them whenever I want... usually released by the Premier League an hour or so after the final whistle.

I might listen to pundits while watching live games... just before kick-off, a few minutes at half time, maybe a few minutes after... otherwise, I don't really care what they think. I take more interest in what other fans think.

MOTD is an outdated show from a bygone era. It's no longer the only way to watch highlights. It hasn't been for a long time. The presenters and production crew can strike if they want. They think they are essential. They aren't. They are now expendable.

You are very cool.

Couple of final points on this.

This is a wet dream for the Tories. No-one talking about the dubious legality, ethical questionability, or pragmatic implementation problems of their proposed bill. Instead we’re talking about a tweet from a sports presenter.

The BBC is being horribly exposed as a de facto government mouthpiece. Make no mistake, government officials have been on the phone to the DG saying “put this guy back in his box”.

They’ve been on the back foot since Cameron threatened to shut them down, and now there’s no effort or pretence of political impartiality.

With Tory party donors, ex-Tory electoral candidates and staff who worked for the Tories in number 10, all now key players in the decision making personnel at the beeb, it’s less a national public broadcaster and more a communications arm of the government.

"expendable"

This leopard can't change it's spots. Glorious.

Do you think that Lineker is essential to the BBC? If he is not essential, he is expendable.

The only people that should/can strike, are those who have leverage and who are essential to society. TV production crews in London, and multi-millionaire presenters who withdraw their services... they are not essential. What leverage do they have? None. Nobody cares!

Contrary to your appalling outlook on life, not everyone's actions are committed in the belief of personal gain.

Captain bad take just doing his thing

Presume we’re all boycotting MOTD tomorrow?

This is going to be fun, Lineker needs to hold the line now, the media are going to destroy the BBC, public opinion and political pressure will build and there will be a purge and sackings.

They will try anything to bring Lineker back in now and quickly to put this fire out -watch them activate self preservation.

This isn't about MOTD.
