Why are people so arsed as to what others want to do? Genuine question, this. Why is it such an outrage that someone who believes they are living in the wrong gender and wants to change, is given the right to do so at the age of 16?

I can imagine it was like this when people first started coming out as gay. Let's give them until the age of 21 before they decide if the feelings they have had towards their own gender since they were young, are just a fragment of their imagination.

Personally, if someone believes they are living as the wrong gender and are suffering as a result of that, they should be given the option to change.

For me, I believe that any consenting adult should be free to live their life as they see fit... just so long as there is no negative impact on others. It's the potential, negative impact on others that concerns me. We can quibble over the age you can make these decisions, but I think 16 is too young to make a life changing decision.

You can't keep 100% of people happy all the time. It's impossible. When you give individuals carte blanche to do what ever they want, as we have been doing, it's open to abuse... which changing rooms to use, which sports to compete in, which prisons to go to, which sex of airport security are allowed to search a person...

In no way is this issue the same as coming out as gay. Is that difficult? Perhaps, probably... for some! But, coming out as gay doesn't affect others. It's an individual decision.

You can get pregnant and have a baby at 16, and is the 2 years difference really that big of a deal? I'd beg to differ, although, I see how some could see it that way. However, if a person has been wanting to change genders since say, the age of 8, they have already waited half of their life to make a legal decision. I do know somebody that has gone through a transition and they are a totally different person now (no pun intended). They were a lot more subdued before and it really has given them a new lease of life, which they had been made to wait for years for it to be completed. In this instance, they would have made that decision earlier and been a lot happier for it.

I don't think this is as big an issue as you think. Gender-neutral changing rooms and toilets have been around for ages, I've been in bars years ago where lads and girls used the same ones. The sports issue is always going to be contentious, however, there are regulations now being applied to sports to ensure that it is a level playing field. Furthermore, it is a very small issue as it's not like there are 100s of professional sports persons wanting to suddenly switch and play for the opposite gender. There are also provisions in place for airport security to search people of the same sex, which can continue if someone has had a transition. Same with prisons, it will be a small minority of people going into a prison who are or have transitioned; I'm sure there could be processes put in place to ensure they are correctly incarcerated.

Your bit? You've done nothing for no one. Ever.

That's abundantly clear to all.

Oh I don’t know. Having developed and promoted numerous managers and directors over many years and in different companies I did my bit to enhance their personal financial situation. Even now in my retirement I provide employment for staff in a pub that would otherwise have been closed and turned into housing. What have you done ?……

Great post. Wasted on Mr White though, as he is terminally maidenless

Any stats to show your claims ?

Being poor is the toughest of lives and in countries such as the U.K. no one should be poor. The disabled and vulnerable should be fully funded to live decent lives. We do however waste money on those who are neither disabled nor vulnerable, but are just bone idle. We then complain that we haven’t got enough people to do all of the jobs and bring others in to do the work while the bone idle suck up money that should be going to those that really need it…..

How much Sorry… what made you change your mind ?

I became disillusioned. Wilson was my hero, I hated Heath, then both Wilson and Callaghan screwed up and seemed to allow the unions to ruin the country before Thatcher arrived and stopped the excesses of the union militants…..

So you ran businesses then? Presumably for your own profit first and foremost? And that's your example as 'doing your bit?!'

Hahaha

This is such a Tory answer. It's literally perfect.

As you’ve only been here five minutes I’ve tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I have no intention of running through my career for one such as yourself as you patently cannot discuss anything in a grown up manner. If you are not someone’s multi then I’m guessing a 25 year old still living at home with absolutely no experience of life. Enjoy your life….
