The vote went through in the 1970s twice without any arguments .....as I voted in both for trade - plus it was a vote just for trade not a European Parliament......

But the point is, people campaigned against it. And we had another vote. So surely that establishes the principle you can have more than 1 vote on an issue.

I'm not pro or anti brexit either. But we can be asked what we think again if the conditions makes sense too.

Freedom has got to include being free to think again - or why bother with elections at all?

No, the reason why there was a vote was the first time Ted Heath PM just took us in on very bad terms with no vote the 2nd time it was because the people thought it was a con food prices went high & purchase tax became VAT to pay for being a member rise from 3-5% to 10 % I think the vote was 60/40 in favour just for TRADE purposes.....

And a lot of "Austerity" was driven by dogma in favour of a small state, and backed by a mistaken belief that we should be a post-industrial economy like Singapore and Switzerland - which in fact have thrived on more, not less, industrial production.

Incompetence, across the board, for 12 years.

Then add Brexit (which 2/3 Labour voters opposed) which from Cameron to Sunak has been a five star f*** up

Anybody who bangs on about Singapore should just never be listened too.

The idea dont work outside of a very specific context. And we are paying the penalty for chasing an ideological vision that doesnt work, at enormous cost to the hard working families in this country.

That's fine, and I am against lots of aspects of the EU.

My point is, people had the right to reverse the decision in the 70s, and have the right to reverse the decision in 2016 too.

If Brexits so great, we would have seen it under the 5 pms we have had, and we will vote to stay out.

Do you live in Scotland, as they are arguing the same argument ....... yet they were told once in a lifetime referendum .....

If we could voted just on trade with the EU without its useless two parliaments, I think there would be no problems .....

I dont. But in Scotland they narrowly lost a referendum, with every age bracket under 65 voting to leave, on the basis of a bunch of promises that were reneged upon.

6 months later the independence party won 90% of seats. The context changed and they should have another vote.
