A private pension, yes. The state pension doesn't work like that and is paid for out of general taxation. The NI payments you made qualified you for a state pension but were paying for the pensions of those already retired.

Yes the same general taxation me an Joey have paid all our lives and are still paying, its the same for us all Bruce. If that's the way it works then we all have little choice.

Not at all, absolute rubbish so you are still saying this is the Pensioners fault ? Or is it a case of let's blame someone else as I suspect it is. Blame the government who make the bloody decisions. And again grow up.
Oh don’t be so emotional. I didn’t once say the migrants crisis is the fault of pensioners. I made a joke that referenced the older generation’s attitude to migrants and you’ve made up your own weird narrative on it.

And I do blame the government, but I also blame the voters who are culpable for 12 years of Tories. And as others have said, people of the age referenced above are more likely to vote for Tory.

You’ll stay off my hit list, for now.

Again, the notion that pensioners are the poorest members of society is simply not true

Who would have even thought that those who are older, have worked for more years and therefore earned more money, would have more savings than those who are younger, who worked for only a few years and spent it on cars….I’m shocked by this revelation……

Average UK savings by age:

25-34: Between £500 and £5,000
35-44: Between £5,000 and £12,500
45-54: Between £5,000 and £12,500
55-64: Between £12,500 and £25,000
65+: Between £25,000 and £50,000

Funny how it works isn’t it. I paid millions into the U.K. government, raised four children and they are now paying me beer money in my retirement years…tonight I even thanked a couple of 40 year olds for their contributions to our forthcoming 10% rise….

If it was a joke fine you have my unreserved apologies, probably was a bit too emotional I'll agree with that, yes i blame voters for voting them in, but that's where I draw the line, we are a democracy in this Country and people vote the way they want it's their choice right or wrong and as much as it pains me to say it because of the unfair suffering it has caused young and old. Btw the last line of you're post was the bit I enjoyed the most, humour is often my way of getting things across and that was a beauty. lol ?

Since the state pension was introduced, life expectancy has risen by about 20 years. The retirement age has risen by about 2. What meanies they are.

You Might'nt think so but I do and leaves you less life to enjoy after your hard earned retirement, retired by 2 you say, years you mean ? Thought women used to retire at 60 ? Besides that, that leaves people in work longer and leaves less jobs for younger people to get, have you thought of that ? Well off to work my 11hour shift Bruce maybe you could lobby the tories so I can retire at 70 or even 80, what a kind caring soul you are.. :)

Well yes, people actually have. Quite a lot.

Which is a good thing, as when the state pension was introduced, the population of the UK was about 40 million. It's now over 67 million, so we've somehow managed to find work for 20 odd million new people since the state pension was introduced.

This is the problem with the state pension system as it currently stands though, as when it was introduced there were a small number of pensioners living not very long in retirement, and their pension was paid by a very large working age population. Now, things have reversed and the retired population is not only much larger as the boomers enter it, but they're living longer in retirement. The generation behind them is smaller so we have much less working people to pay for a much larger number of pensions.

No political party wants to tackle this problem because of the aforementioned voting propensity of pensioners and the media-friendly cries of it being so horribly unfair "I've saved all my life down t'pit you know..." etc. etc. Maybe if the governments of the last 100 years had deigned to design pensions more like an actual bloody pension where payments go into an actual pension pot then things might be different, but none have.
