Well then maybe they should have a bit more sympathy for people whose lives are in total disarray due to war and other issues? I can’t think of many worse places to be than a rubber dingy in the English Channel over winter.

Or is it a case or ‘I struggled so everyone else must also struggle’, as I suspect it is?

Not at all, absolute rubbish so you are still saying this is the Pensioners fault ? Or is it a case of let's blame someone else as I suspect it is. Blame the government who make the bloody decisions. And again grow up.

It's cause and effect, surely? Some clear facts at play here.

1. Pensioners are disproportionately likely to vote Conservative.
2. As per the data I shared, pensioners are disproportionately likely to oppose immigration, to want it reduced, and to have little sympathy for asylum seekers.
3. The Conservative party adopts a very hard line on immigration generally and refugees in particular.

Are we really here saying that those three things have absolutely nothing in common? Oh, and assuming those who fought in WW2 were of legal age when they did so, they'd be about 100 now. There are barely 15,000 people in this country over 100, so please don't try and pin these attitudes on those who fought. It's really the ones who came after that are to blame.

Making an awful lot of assumptions there aren't we Bruce, prove it.. My parents never voted tory, they would have been 83 and 85 if still alive. I'm 62 and will be a pensioner in 4 years I've never voted tory, where I'm originally from Liverpool don't think they are mainly tory either. But you have you're data, vill just go on what I see with my own eyes and what values I was brought up on.

Older people are more likely to vote Tory because they have (as often than not) more to lose. They distrust change because of the same thing: change is risky.

Older people also die off but others follow the line and find their own attitudes changing.

I suspect, without evidence (because I haven't searched for it) that crass attitudes towards immigrants will be found in every age group. It will be more pronounced when shared resources - housing etc, are perceived to be squeezed. Like any animal under pressure, humans get very leery when their patch is under pressure.

I just don't get that, Pensioners are amongst the poorest in the land, so why would they vote Tory? Tories look after themselves, rich people, it would be like a Turkey voting for Christmas. But I also think it is totally wrong and cowardly to pick on one section of the electorate ( not you btw) to pick on the old and infirm, easy target eh lads, as you say it will be all ages of the nation who could think that, not just the old.

We need the final word from our resident centenarian on this matter @Joey66

With respect, individual anecdotes aren't the play here. As you can see below, older people are more likely to vote Tory than any other age group. They're also more likely to vote than any other age group, which makes them such a powerful constituency to woo for Tories. Indeed, while it's difficult to know with precision, most estimates put the average age of Tory members as around 60 (see second link). So no, it's not an assumption as that is what the data shows us. It would be an assumption to think otherwise.
