I think we should try to live within our means. Call me old fashioned but I think we should treat public finances like our own personal finances. Only spend what we can afford.

A fairly bland budget all in all but that's no bad thing.

I agree, which was why that was such a rubbish budget and why the whole tax and spend vs Tory “austerity” argument is so bogus.

Governments should strive to get the most out of the money we are forced to give them so nonsense like housing benefit (instead of spending that money on building its own social housing, from which it can get rents and the value of sales) should never be tolerated.

110bn they've given in tax cuts to corporations and big businesses since they got in, that's austerity right there, how the Tories get away with this type of thing has to be admired, crapping in the public's front room and telling them it's a mars bar.

I thought your stance was that we had enough police?

We do, they do the wrong things.....

“Police should focus on catching burglars and violent thugs rather than recording incidents that are not crimes, one of the country's most senior officers has said.
National Police Chiefs' Council chairwoman Sara Thornton warned forces are too stretched to take on all 'desirable and deserving' issues, such as logging misogyny reports even when no offence has been committed.
Calling for a 'refocus on core policing', she also said she is 'unconvinced' it is appropriate to commit significant resources investigating allegations against the dead.”......

I have lived in Pinkneys Green, Maidenhead for 35 years. I have only ever seen police in our area on one occasion. It was a nice sunny day and there was a police car parked at the side of the road (dead end). They never got out of their car and drove off after about 15 minutes. That was about 15 years ago. We were once woken up at 3 am by a Police helicopter which kept flying around, quite low and making a hell of a racket, for about 45 minutes. The local paper reported that it was looking for a stolen car!

Yeah it's all over the news yesterday and today, you can easily look up the corporation tax rates under Labour and now the Tories.

Two sides of the same orthodoxy though isn't it? Labour want to borrow tens of billions to invest in infrastructure that they hope will generate jobs (and extra tax income to pay for it). The Tories reduce the tax rate for companies in the same belief, that those companies will invest the difference, create new jobs (and thus extra tax income will result). The approach in itself isn't bad, providing it worked in balancing the books.

110bn taken out the public's coffers, while they impose austerity on the masses, it's classic Tory and it's disgusting they get away with it.

pete - if you got reputable sources for your news (such as from here) you'd have realised that the proposal to record allegations of misogyny was just that, a proposal.

She said: “Treating misogyny as a hate crime is a concern for some well-organised campaigning organisations. In July, chiefs debated whether we should record such allegations even when no crime is committed.

“But we do not have the resources to do everything that is desirable and deserving … I want us to solve more burglaries and bear down on violence before we make more records of incidents that are not crimes.”

Perhaps noone should be surprised by this given that (a) Maidenhead has always returned a Tory MP and (b) that it has been represented for the past 21 years by Theresa May.
