Sounds easy. Trouble is, it isnt.

TBH it would be enough to take the nuclear deterrent out of the MoD and put it elsewhere; that way it wouldnt do what it has done ever since Polaris and defund the other forces (massively so in the Navy's case).

Happy to admit I am not embedded with the details of the ins and outs mate, but even I know that scrapping a nuclear programme and instantly diverting the cash to social care is not as straight forward as the poster said it was.

There are times it could be done - as the system requires replacement for instance - but it really needs to be a stand alone budget item, or in a truly ideal world a budget item that has a specific tax to support it.

Which is a matter of priorities.

Spend zero on nuclear weapons and most of the social services get enough money

Defence, the whole of Defence, nuclear, conventional, RAF, RN, Army is barely 6% of the public budget. You could do away with all of it, everything, and it would be swallowed up by increases to NHS and pensions. It’s a nonsense argument.......

I rarely post in here, but can someone please explain how loads of money was announced today for fixing the roads, when I pay road tax.. To fix the roads ?

Ta in advance..

His forecasts have improved quite a lot since the spring statement.

Like all budgets there are a few little stealth taxes too to bring in a bit of money. Quite a few of the capital gains reliefs have been tightened up, there's NIC increase for self employed etc. Easy political things that will raise a little bit of extra cash without 99.9% of the population knowing a thing about it.
