I wouldn’t be surprised to see the tories win the next election. They won a landslide with Johnson Ffs. A lot of what they do must appeal to the electorate
People are indoctrinated to sympathise with centre right politics. They want to believe that
deep down the Tories are like them or understand them. They want everything to be ok, so they close their eyes and vote with hope, not expectation.
I fully expect the Tories to bin Truss once she has done their bidding - the spending cuts haven't gone away - then claim they "get it" and are "working for you". People, once again, will want to believe. I have them winning the next election too.
The message needs to get out there, this is not what centre right politics looks like, there is a fundamental shift in the Conservative party towards breaking up and selling off all the parts of the state that don't turn a profit or offer some service for them. They don't believe in free at the point of contact healthcare, they don't believe in your fundamental right to dignity in poverty, old age or disability.
I've never liked the Tories, but these are something else.
