It is completely irrelevant. You seem to have cherry picked here. I have stated several times that anything she did after she gained entry to the UK is irrelevant, because at the time of entry nobody knew what kind of person she was, as none of the good stuff she did had happened. So again - A person trying to gain entry to any country - armed only with a PhD - should not be allowed access if that person does not have any of the other credentials required.

Good lord. Who on earth do you think you are?

Surely the point is that the proposed system does not adequately acknowledge the value of individuals like her.

Far from irrelevance, the contribution she has made in her time in the UK, which even my early morning research could tell me, is fairly significant.

I noted earlier that you suggested she may, in extreme circumstances, turn out to be a serial killer and I wonder, under what system that we currently don't already have the capability to prevent this type of person gaining entry would you suggest we use to decide this?

The point is that some bloody checklist can't possibly surmise the virtues of a human being. Is that what we're becoming? Boiled down to a few criteria? The whole notion is insane, which is why (for the 1,000th time) the 'unmanaged' migrants from the EU do better on every single metric than those we 'manage' from the rest of the world. There is a reason for that, it's just the logically challenged choose to ignore that because they're thick as two short planks.

I was trying to be a little more diplomatic Bruce

That was your point? After all that? Could you not just have said that? Okay I retract my previous statement. Here's my new one:-

I find it difficult to believe that a PhD - and only a PhD - would be enough to gain entry into most countries in the world - apart from when travelling from one EU Member State to another EU Member State.

As mentioned earlier - I am no expert in this. I will say this though - I get the feeling our immigration policy is going to resemble somewhere like Australia possibly? I don't see what is so wrong about that.

It's one of the most obviously racist immigration policies in the world?

But at the time of entry, those things would have been in the future. This person had only a PhD. That is all we know from that tweet. We don't know if there was employment, and we don't know if, at the time, she could speak the language. We can't use "seems like a nice person" in the decision making process. At the time, nobody would have known anything about what type of person we were dealing with. We can't use hindsight to make a judgement on this. Nobody is saying this person can't enter the country. We are saying you are welcome here, if you meet the criteria, and if your skills are needed.

With regards to the serial killer line - This was used as an example to underline my point on hindsight. I am not really sure why people are making such a big deal about that.

Here is a genuine question:-

Do you agree with the UK immigration policy with regards to non-EU countries?

With respect, you don't know any of those things. You are judging somebody on the information you have from a tweet.

This is my point. I am basing what I know from that tweet. I have never stated otherwise. And from only that tweet, we only know she had a PhD when she gained entry to the UK. If that is the only thing she had, then she has no cause for complaint.

What she did after gaining access to the UK is not relevant in this.

So, in truth, you have no idea if she had employment lined up, if she spoke English or anything else about her. You have decided the PHD was her only qualificiation. You have erected a strawman.

Quick question, have you ever met anybody who moved to the UK to work who didnt speak English?

You've been jocked in front of the class here, make no mistake
