Yeah - in hindsight - that line was probably a bit harsh like.

I do, however, stand by the basis of my argument. She is no more entitled to gain entry to this country than anyone else that doesn't tick the boxes. To be honest, I find it very annoying when people announce to the world, what a wonderful person they are. This is what she basically did on Twitter.

personally I’m not a particularly nice person certainly on occasion anyway and I don’t do social media other than this so chances are you won’t see me doing it .

my issue with you was over the language, if youve walked that back then maybe I’ve got less of an issue even if we disagree . However if I’d lived in a country for 10 years and contributed significantly to it and then the rules changed to mean I wouldn’t get in I can see how it’s a point I’d be tempted to make .

Your post makes no sense. She has to go because she's "waving a PhD in someone's face" and on the day she arrived others who came "didn't turn out to be so good and giving"
Yes mate, I don't know you and given your posts in this thread I'm glad of that. No one said you were a bad person.I would let others judge if your small minded, bitter posts about immigration make you one or not.

Who is saying anything about her having to go? Nobody here is looking to deport her. I am thinking you misread my previous statement, or i haven't written it correctly?

Why shouldn't she have to go under the proposed criteria - Like everybody else?

I should have typed it as:-

Why shouldn't she have to undergo the proposed criteria - Like everybody else?

By that, I mean, if she was trying to enter the country under the new criteria, and she didn't tick the boxes, then no - she shouldn't gain entry. Just like everyone else that didn't tick the boxes.

So let's recap:-

We have a points system in place for gaining entry into the country. If you do not reach the points required, you should not gain entry into the country. I agree with that. How is that bitter and small-minded?

Fair comment, and there are no doubt thousands of immigrants that have contributed massively to our society. Unfortunately, there are thousands that probably haven't. I don't really see what her point is. Surely for someone educated to PhD level, she can see that what she has done since getting here is pretty irrelevant. We can only go on what we know at point of entry. At point of entry - under the new criteria - she would not have been allowed in. I don't know why she has an issue with that, unless of course she thinks she should be let in, because of her PhD. This reeks of entitlement.

I am like you - the only social media I touch is this. I am only on here this week because I am laid up after keyhole on my knee. So I am putting a lot of this down to being stir crazy ha.

Loads more jobs for white, English people that these foreigners usually do according to Patel. 50 hour weeks for minimum wage. Hopefully plenty of Brexit voters will now be able to find employment. Now that's the Brexit I would have voted for.

Don't they have disabled and elderly people in the place she calls home? Do they not need looking after?
"I'm a professor, and an all round good egg. I should get to do what I want".
From that tweet we know that eleven years ago, she had a PhD. We don't know what in. We don't know if she could speak English.
Replace PhD with a white van and a set of tools. Would anyone be complaining? Or is it because she has a PhD? She is coming across as a self-entitled educated elitist - "I have a PhD.

Yes, difficult to tell really.

I think the demonisation of immigrants has led us here personally, all the actual research tells you as a country we’ve benefitted from immigration .to generalise It’s not a huge coincidence that the big cities with more immigration voted to retain freedom of movement. Not just that Before my parents died they benefited from care and treatment from immigrants as have i myself.

instead we have rubbish like we’re too small Or full , scare stories about benefit cheats or farage et al complaining about foreign voices on the train despite his own kids speaking German . It used to be the Jews , the it was “no dogs no blacks no Irish “ and now it’s Eastern European’s . Those in power don’t spend money on the nhs or housing and it’s simply easier to blame the ‘immigrants’. Like I say I find it sad .

You stated you didn't believe a phd would allow you to enter ANY country, you were wrong

That was your point? After all that? Could you not just have said that? Okay I retract my previous statement. Here's my new one:-

I find it difficult to believe that a PhD - and only a PhD - would be enough to gain entry into most countries in the world - apart from when travelling from one EU Member State to another EU Member State.

As mentioned earlier - I am no expert in this. I will say this though - I get the feeling our immigration policy is going to resemble somewhere like Australia possibly? I don't see what is so wrong about that.

Well if they're genuine about upgrading the care sector I'll give them a chance.
Complaining about care homes having to close because cheap foreign labour is no longer available belies the low value we place on social care.
They'll have to raise the wages and get local authorities more involved. Fingers crossed.

That will be because you have bought into the demonetization of immigrants as so clearly shown in your bigoted and ignorant language, I'll be popping you on ignore as I really don't feel any need to expose myself to such blind racist hatred, good day whopper

Again - fair comment.

I have no issue with immigration - as long as it is controlled. Unfortunately, a few posters here seem to think that anyone with this view is any number of bad things - racist, bigot, xenophobe, Little Englander etc. It get's in the way of reasonable debate. I am none of these things, and most people with that point of view aren't either.

My Dad - or at least the man I've called Dad since I was five, came to this country in the mid fifties when he was twelve. He is basically the Windrush generation (he was flown over to stay with relatives in London). This might surprise a few posters - especially the ones that have me down as a racist. I have something I say in a lot of my posts when faced with these insults - "you don't know me". My point here is that whilst you claim a lot of people find it easier to "blame the immigrants" - a point well made - I find a lot of the time it is easier to call someone a racist, than actually listen to their point. You haven't done that.

As mentioned previously - my first couple of posts were a bit harsh, but my point is still relevant.

It would also appear that while I was typing my previous response, right on cue, I was called a racist and a bigot. Haha.

But other than from the EU, it is. Or at least, its within the remit of a UK Government to do so.

So what aspect of free movement between EU members are you so exorcised about?
