They would be correct but no more than the old folks in most European countries. Much more an age/education issue than a national one.
When I’ve been away recently many people seem to regard me with suspicion when I mention I’m British. Could be me being paranoid I guess.

The biggest benefit I've seen from Brexit so far is the withdrawal of the EU grants to spend on flood defences.
In the future we can keep the blame for the lack of flood defences firmly within our own borders. How dare those pesky foreigners come over here and fund our flood defences. If we want to flood our villages, we'll flood our villages.
