Surely the cost of providing body cameras would offset the costs of any potential lawsuits.

Probably a net benefit for PD's insurance, but eyewitness phone/video seems to be what's driving the change. Too many officers can simply "forget" to turn their body cameras on (unless technology changes further) for full accountability.
 
That's changing, if only because of the phones of witnesses. Police departments can no longer cover up and wait out the victim's money for lawyers, and must make correct decisions, even if not quick. And the DAs who side with PDs to protect bad cops are being driven out of office also.

Sounds too much like a Nolan Batman flick, but it actually looks like there could be some changes in the way these things are handled. It was just 5 years ago that we were being told that filming police actions was illegal and subject to prosecution. That's been fixed and now police action is seen as a matter of public record.

Just think how sick that is.
 
I'm going through this thread when it reaches post 1000 and counting up how many people have been needlessly murdered since it started.

Anyone care to hazard a guess?


And still they cling to their archaic laws and their precious guns.
