I don't know whether he had a gun, but at the start of the video he's clearly got his hands in the air and is making no attempt to evade arrest. Bit mad to definitely say it's his own fault, he's stupid or he deserves it.

I get that people carrying guns makes it hard for police, but they're legal as far as I'm aware in this case and if I was a black man in America I'd be terrified of law enforcement.

It's a complex issue but, based on current information, the only law he's broken is selling a few CDs. Does he really need to die for that?

Hard to pull out a gun when your hands are in the air above your head. Still hard to pull out a gun when you're being held to the ground by two policemen.

Here's how it should have been.

"ON THE GROUND!"

"Yeah, sure, doing it."

*Guy goes on the ground*

*Guy is arrested*

What aren't you seeing here? Do you think cops should take liberties with their own lives just because it'll upset a few people?

Here's how I imagine the scenario:

Store owner calls cops: there's a guy here threatening people with a gun
Cops show up: is it this guy?
Store owner: no, not that guy, somebody else
Cops: ok, see you later guy-not-getting shot tonight, we're looking for someone else who's been accused of aggravated assault

What seems to have happened:

Store owner calls cops: there's a guy here threatening people with a gun
Cops show up: is it this guy?
Store owner: no, not that guy, somebody else. this guy's here all the time selling CDs.
Cops: selling illegal CDs? GET YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR. On second thought, GET ON THE GROUND NOW OR I'M SHOOTING YOU.
*5 shots later*
Cops: check his pockets for any weapons, ok?

Another thought.
Pay for cd from bloke on the street then go down an alley and exchange cd for rock of crack. If man with the money gets pulled he just has a load of jarg one direction albums on him.

Ok, so police were called out because he/someone was pointing a gun at people...

He then resisted arrest, and according to the video, looked to be reaching for a gun. He was warned, continued - was shot.

You do of course have evidence to back up your accusation. And would be happy to wait until a firearm is being aimed at you before using force?

its not a western, I would hope a well trained police force outnumbering and restraining the assailant would be confident enough in their skills, that they would at least wait to see if he had a gun, let alone intent to use it, before pumping rounds into him, while on the floor being restrained, I really don't think that is too much to ask

No, it's not a western it's people having to make split second life or death decisions that are easy for the likes of us to second guess.

But why not shoot him in the arm that is reaching for the gun? Instead of point blank in the upper chest?

Why are so many of these police shootings fatal? They are trained officers of the law ffs.
