I never suggested it was going to suddenly stop, that is blooming obvious, but it will slow, dramatically and continue to do so,whichis, I am sure even you can agree, a better alternative to what we have now, innocent children being murdered dozes of times a year
We need to frame this discussion better.

We both agree, what happened is horrific and we both want to see a massive reduction of these sorts of events happening.

You believe the best way to do this is to outright ban guns.

I believe for reasons already mentioned, that this is not feasible in America. Sure, it happened in England & Australia but America is a different beast.

All we differ on is that you want an outright ban, I would prefer to see a Canada style restriction on guns.

We both want the same thing, less people & children mindlessly killed. We just have differing beliefs on the best way to achieve it.

Can we agree on that?

He said he wanted to outright ban guns, I take back the part about him saying it would make gun crime go away overnight.
I think a flat out ban that turned law-abiding citizens into criminals overnight would obviously not work. It seems like a good jumping off point would be to at least stop FURTHER arming the population. There’s already more guns than people in this country, we don’t need any more. Stop selling them everywhere, and maybe in time the culture will begin to shift.

What do they do at a gun convention? Look at guns, like a model railway exhibition, and then get a bit, y'know, "excited"?
What you’re describing is more like a “gun show” that comes to town several times a year. In addition to walking around ogling other people’s firearms, people are also able buy/sell them, oftentimes without any documentation. As a for a gun convention, who knows. It’ll probably just be Trump, Cruz and Charlton Heston making their way to the stage to talk about how awesome guns are.

Blimey.

We get a model train exhibition, once, maybe twice, a year. And they are way more fun than a gun.

Are you saying I’m right?

No, in seriousness, I understand your point about the difficulty of an outright ban, I really do. I believe anything is possible where people are concerned and we should not settle for second best because we are afraid of change. It would take a long, long time but any results are better then the current situation.

Ultimately, there is no right answer and the best we could hope for would be drastic changes in their gun laws

Fair enough. I think these threads and arguments get out of control at times, obviously everyone is very passionate but framing the discussion is useful as often people agree on most things.

What America needs is another major party to split the the Dems and Republicans, they are so divisive and cannot work on anything, Obama wanted universal HC and the Republicans stopped that, he wanted to overhaul Gun legislation and they stopped that, you see the issue with abortion, immigration, legalised drugs and its the same thing.

A third party maybe to the centre needs to come in and change the face of divisive politics there, also lobbyist groups in Washington who are to powerful that have politicians in their back pocket needs to be highlighted what a detriment they are to America's well being, they own politicians by pretty much bribing them to block and vote on legislature.
The Democratic party IS center. Hell, it's RIGHT of center ffs.
