There’s a lot wrong here, but I’ll just pick this last bit. How in the world does your uncle working for Ross Perot have anything to do with your own education and knowledge of American history or government?

My uncle was a plus handicap. That doesn’t help me break 80 when I play…

Based on the timeline there, and the fact that you’ve precisely referred to me as “Brah” I’m gonna guess you’re about 15 or 16 which would help explain some things. Keep learning. “Freedom” does not mean you can do whatever you want to do, including buying military grade weapons that our founding fathers couldn’t have possibly foreseen.
Bro, if you're seriously gonna get triggered for being called a "brah", then you are the literal definition of a snowflake.

I believe in gun control but not to the radical extreme lengths of many of the posters on here. I don't believe taking away guns, which will inevitably lead to more tragedy. Taking away guns will create a bigger reaction than repealing Roe v Wade imo. The constitution is the backbone of America.

Why is bringing up my uncle's background significant? Because a poster tried doubting my understanding of American history.

Vulnerable to criminals? So all those countries that dont have guns but have much, much lower murder figures - explain that
I’d rather be vulnerable to criminals (what ever that means) than part of the huge gun death rate that the US has. 2 mass shoutings A DAY

There has been one shooting at a school in the UK in my 47 years (which resulted in complete overhaul of our gun laws) there has been 30 this year in the US
Bro that's not a good argument. The UK doesn't have a gun culture like the USA and it never did. Do you seriously expect everybody to surrender their weapons because Biden said so?

For me, second amendment stands for everything that America is supposed to represent. For me, it's all about freedom. The 2nd amendment is supposed to empower the citizens and give the citizens the freedom. America was formed based on an uprising against a tyrannical regime and the ideas of 2nd amendment was fermented from this.

The 2nd amendment does not say anything about background checks or mental health screening but that's definitely something I would consider as somebody who takes the 2nd amendment incredibly seriously. Beto O'Rouke is a clown btw.

Where I studied American history? My uncle was a PA for Ross Perot in his college days.
So your uncle taught you American history and his credentials are his personal assistance to Ross Perot? OK...

With all due respect, the Second Amendment didn't confer "freedom" to the American people, absent a responsibility to their community known as a militia. It's main reason for existence was a lack of desire for a permanent standing army controlled by the Federal government. Absent that desire, the Founders would not have added it but still would have written what was the First Amendment - far more important than the Second to guaranteeing individual rights in this country.

Err, pretty sure that risk is in the job description.

Unlike teachers who are frequently casualties in school shootings but still get between gunmen and their students.

Lol not triggered buddy. Just observing and making an assumption about your age and maturity level based on your community style and approach to discussion…I don’t know many 30-40 year olds who speak that way…

And again, how does your uncle’s background in any way enhance YOUR credibility on anything? You’re a totally different person.

Perhaps another chat with your uncle might be informative.

Ross Perot ““I can’t believe the gun lobby wants the crazies to have machine guns”

Ross Perot
“Keep in mind our Constitution predates the Industrial Revolution. Our founders did not know about electricity, the train, telephones, radio, television, automobiles, airplanes, rockets, nuclear weapons, satellites, or space exploration. There's a lot they didn't know about. It would be interesting to see what kind of document they'd draft today. Just keeping it frozen in time won't hack it.[45]

One thing I keep reading is people saying that Chicago has the structest gun rules, but one of the highest rates of gun crime in the country.

Putting to one side the accuracy of that claim, how can Chicago have some form of gun controls that are considered a breach of the second amendment? And if their controls are legal, is it not possible for other states to adopt the same rules as a starting point?

Good point.

You can't just repeal the 2nd amendment anymore anyways. There are too many guns everywhere and taking away guns is just punishing the law abiding citizens and leaving them vulnerable to criminals.
Does repealing the second amendment automatically mean owning a gun will be illegal and they will be taken away? Or does it just mean that background checks, limits on types of firearms etc can be introduced?

Taking away guns will lead to even more tragedy ?!?!
More than 2 mass shootings a day? More than 30 school shootings in 6 months?

Mate, take away guns and those people don’t die
